Austria coach Marcel Koller a target for Borussia Monchengladbach - report

Borussia Monchengladbach want Austria coach Marcel Koller to become their new manager, according to a report in his native Switzerland.

Koller, 54, has caught the eye after leading Austria to next summer's European Championship as winners of their qualifying group ahead of Russia and Sweden.

Currently 13th in the German Bundesliga, Gladbach are on the hunt for a new coach following Lucien Favre's unexpected resignation last month.

On Tuesday, Swiss newspaper Blick said that Koller is a target and claimed that the former Cologne and Bochum manager had already held discussions with the German club's sporting director Max Eberl.

The Austrian Football Association (OFB) did not want to discuss the speculation before their final two qualifying matches in Montenegro on Friday and against Liechtenstein in Vienna next Monday.

"For the moment we're just going to wait for the last two games," OFB president Leo Windtner told Blick. "We can't let outside matters dictate our agenda."

Gladbach lost their opening five league games prior to Favre's departure but they have since taken nine points from nine under interim boss Andre Schubert.

With this in mind, Blick suggests Gladbach could potentially wait until after Euro 2016 to appoint Koller.

On Monday, Eberl had confirmed that Gladbach would take their time before appointing a successor to Favre.

"During the international break and the following weeks we will work with Andre Schubert," he told the club's official website.

"The search for a new permanent manager will take a while. Getting somebody in quickly is not a concern for us. We would rather take a bit longer to find the right fit.

"We have a great coach in Andre Schubert who has worked well. His methods are good for the team. That's incredibly important for us in a time like this while we look for a more permanent solution.

"We have begun talks, but it's likely that they will go on until we have found the right replacement."

Kicker reported that Alois Schwartz, currently in charge of 2. Bundesliga side Sandhausen, is another name under consideration.
