Jadon Sancho's Borussia Dortmund progress praised by coach Peter Stoger

The FC crew grade Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and struggling Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season.
In an exclusive interview during Borussia Dortmund's winter training camp, Christian Pulisic tells ESPN that his country puts too much expectation on him after their World Cup exit.

Borussia Dortmund head coach Peter Stoger says Jadon Sancho is developing well at the club but still has some way to go before he is in contention to play regularly.

After not getting many chances on the field in the first half of the season, England youth international Sancho was seen to benefit from BVB's winter training camp.

Stoger said: "Sancho is a very talented, wild and relatively young player. He's eager to learn, has a high quality. Maybe, at this point, he's still a bit too playful, not too purpose-built."

"He's got talent. Let's see how it deals with the situation. He has made good steps in our training camp."

Dortmund are looking for their 500th home win in Bundesliga when they return from the winter break to take on Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Having recorded back-to-back Bundesliga wins in December, Dortmund sit third ahead of the restart this weekend. While they are already 13 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich, they only trail local rivals Schalke by two points.

A win against Wolfsburg would see Dortmund become only the fifth team to record 500 home wins in Bundesliga. Bayern, Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Stuttgart are the other clubs to have achieved the feat.

"We'll clearly go for the three points," Stoger told reporters at his prematch news conference, but warned that Wolfsburg "are a team that can be dangerous for every opponent each week. They are a dangerous team."

However, the visitors have not won away from home under coach Martin Schmidt, whose record currently stands at four draws and two defeats from six games.

With left-backs Raphael Guerreiro and Marcel Schmelzer out injured, and winger Marco Reus still not an option for a comeback after knee surgery last June, Stoger added he was pleased returning players such as Erik Durm, Lukasz Piszczek, Gonzalo Castro and Mario Gotze gave him more options.

Singling out Gotze, he said: "He's been away for a while but you can't take away his talent. He can make the difference in our attacking game. But let's see how far he can go. A few training sessions do not guarantee you can go the full 90 minutes."
