Marco Reus on comeback trail amid doubts on Borussia Dortmund future

Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus is reportedly planning to keep his options open as he closes in on a return from injury.

Reus said in October that he could be tempted to play for "four or five international clubs" and kicker reported on Monday that he is in no rush to prolong his contract in Dortmund, which is due to expire in 18 months

The publication said that the 28-year-old's plans will be influenced by whether BVB qualify for the 2018-19 Champions League, on who will train the team in the upcoming season and the club's work in the transfer market.

For now, the Germany international's focus is on recovering his fitness, with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon.

Reus has resumed training with the ball six months after undergoing knee surgery for a partial cruciate ligament tear, and is expected to join his Dortmund teammates as they prepare for the second half of the Bundesliga season in a training camp in Spain in early January.

"The plan is that he'll join us, but he will continue working individually," BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said in kicker.

Reus, speaking to Bild, added: "Let's see. I feel really well."

Since joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, Reus has played in only 125 of a possible 187 Bundesliga matches.

He has also missed both the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championship with injury, and has been limited to 29 appearances for Germany.
