LEVERKUSEN, Germany -- Sporting director Michael Zorc says Borussia Dortmund want to achieve a turnaround with Peter Bosz as manager.
After Saturday's 1-1 draw away to Bayer Leverkusen, the Black and Yellows plummetted further down the league table and now sit in sixth place. Dortmund have managed to win only one match out of their last 11 across all competitions -- against third-tier side Magdeburg in the DFB Pokal.
And despite speculation stoking up concerning a possible replacement of the manager, Zorc told Sky after the game: "We didn't contact any other coach. We want to achieve the turnaround with Peter Bosz."
The hosts were the dominant team for 41 minutes and would have taken a higher lead into the half-time if it wasn't for Dortmund's goalkeeper Roman Burki. But in the 30th minute, the BVB stopper was without a chance against Kevin Volland, who was kept onside by the halfway line and had all time in the world to round Burki and slot home.
The dominance of the hosts came to a sudden halt in the 41st minute after Wendell's rough challenge on Gonzalo Castro warranted a straight red by referee Robert Hartmann after he reviewed the play on a video screen.
Ukranian midfielder Andrey Yarmolenko scored the deserved equaliser in the 73rd minute, as Dortmund boasted 89 percent possession in the second half.
"In the first half, Bayer Leverkusen clearly had the upper hand," Bosz told his news conference, adding: "We had to deal with two big injury blows but showed a good mentality afterwards. Having a numerical advantage obviously helped."
Dortmund lost both forward Maximilian Philipp and Castro to injuries in the first half. Philipp twisted his ankle and left the stadium on crutches with a long cast around his neck.
"We expect a severe knee injury for Maximilian Philipp," Zorc said, adding: "It looks like Gonzalo Castro has a ligament rupture in his ankle."
After losing Mario Gotze to injury, Dortmund's sickbay extended with Philipp and Castro. Asked, who could score Dortmund's goals going forward, Bosz answered with a wry smile" "Not Marco Reus."
