Dortmund boss Peter Bosz on Schalke capitulation: 'That cannot happen'

Borussia Dortmund boss Peter Bosz struggled to make sense of his side's second-half capitulation against derby rivals Schalke.

Dortmund looked sure of a welcome return to winning ways when they raced into a 4-0 lead, but Schalke staged a dramatic fightback and snatched a point in a 4-4 draw through Naldo's equaliser in added time.

A match which at half-time looked set to ease the pressure on the Dortmund boss in the end only turned up the heat further.

"It is hard to analyse and to cope with that,'' Bosz, whose side have now taken two points from their last six Bundesliga games, said on the Dortmund website.

"You feel nothing but disappointment. When you lead 4-0 at the break, that cannot be allowed to happen.

"It is now up to me to rebuild the team. We have to continue to believe in ourselves, we have to shed the uncertainty. I am a fighter -- I was as a player and I am as a coach too. I am not giving up.''

Dortmund took the lead at Signal Iduna Park through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but the striker missed a great chance to put them 5-0 up early in the second half and was later sent off for a second booking.

On the second half, Bosz said: "We didn't play football any more, lost the ball much too quickly, didn't use the room that Schalke offered us. If you see how the goals come about, it is much too easy.''

On the red card, he added: "He wanted to help the team in a defensive situation, but went in to aggressively. Clearly, he should not let that happen, but he wanted to help.''

Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco admitted he had at the break abandoned any hope of getting anything out of the game.

"At half-time I no longer believed that we could get a point from this derby,'' he said on the Schalke website. "And so it feels very good right now.

"Dortmund overran us at the start. Every shot was a goal. To be 4-0 down after 25 minutes in this stadium with this atmosphere, that is hell.

"At the break we decided that we wanted to win the second half. That we then came back in such a way is super. We have shown that we have character and mental strength, that we can produce the spectacular. I am proud of the whole team.''
