Borussia Dortmund facing injury crisis ahead of Bayern Munich clash

Borussia Dortmund head into their Bundesliga clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday with the possibility of being without up to eight first-team players.

Dortmund travel to the Allianz Arena to face the league leaders this weekend sitting a point outside the automatic Champions League qualification spots.

They will definitely be without Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus and Erik Durm, while coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed a number of other players could also be missing.

"Julian Weigl is a doubt, Shinji Kagawa is a doubt, Lukasz Piszczek is a doubt. It looks a bit better for Marc Bartra, who has back problems," Tuchel told his prematch news conference on Friday.

After playing at Bayern on Saturday, Dortmund will begin their preparation for Tuesday's Champions League quarterfinal first leg with Monaco, while they will return to the Allianz Arena on April 26 for the semifinal of the DFB Pokal.

Reus, who sustained a muscle tear last month and has yet to return to team training, may be absent for both crucial clashes.

"With his presence alone he can make all players around him better. Having to do without him is an enormous loss," Tuchel said. "We need to somehow manage to throw him into the mix when he gives the signal."

However, Tuchel added that he fears there could be a greater risk for another injury if Reus returns too early.

"That wouldn't help anyone," he said.

Given Dortmund's current injury problems, Tuchel is expecting a stern test at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

"We know that Bayern go into this match differently than they'd do against Mainz for instance. It has a lot of prestige," he said. "If you offered me four weeks of training with an injury-free squad, I'd say: 'Yes, we're on the same level as Bayern.' But currently it's all a bit marred."
