Borussia Dortmund announce tour of United States in 2018

Borussia Dortmund will tour the United States in 2018, club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed at the annual shareholders' meeting on Monday.

Dortmund began reaching out internationally in 2014, when they first tapped into the Asian market by opening a branch in Singapore. They have since twice visited Asia and are set for a third consecutive trip in 2017 as they look to grow their footprint in the continent.

The club will then make their first steps into the booming football market in the United States, the home of midfielder Christian Pulisic, who is under contract at the Westfalenstadion until 2019.

In moving toward the U.S., Dortmund will follow Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, who opened a branch in New York in 2014 and have visited the United States twice in the past three summers.

Bayer Leverkusen have also been a frequent guest at the Florida Cup, while Schalke signed a partnership deal with New York-based Leverage Agency in September.
