Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball re-elected

Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball has been elected for another three years, marking his sixth consecutive term.

Rauball, 69, was elected with an "overwhelming majority" on Sunday and will go into his eighth term in total, after already leading the club for two brief periods in the 1970s and 1980s.

He took charge of the club alongside CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke in 2004 amid Dortmund's battle to avoid bankruptcy.

During his reign, Dortmund have become one of the biggest clubs worldwide in terms of membership. They currently have 145,207 members, of which around 1,200 attended the BV Borussia 09 e.V. general meeting on Sunday.

"Please accept my gratitude for this excellent vote," Rauball said before reflecting on a successful 2016 that has seen Dortmund finish runners-up in both Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal as well as returning to the Champions League.

"BVB is in an excellent place this autumn 2016, both sportingly and economically," Rauball said, adding: "We have the most committed fans in Germany."

Rauball has also led the German Football League (DFL) since 2007, and in late 2015 he was made the interim German FA (DFB) president following Wolfgang Niersbach's resignation in the wake of the 2006 World Cup scandal.
