Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel admitted his side "dominated the match" in Thursday's 3-0 Europa League victory over Tottenham.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's header and a brace from Marco Reus' double helped Dortmund put one step in the quarterfinals with a commanding victory.
"I'm very satisfied with the performance, the result and our defending," Tuchel said. "We looked very fresh, very effective, very determined with our tackling and compactness.
"At the start Tottenham were very strong. It was a very high-tempo match. Bit by bit our passing got better and we created a number of chances to score.
"In the second period we were completely dominant; we pressed Tottenham back into their own half and kept them at a distance from our goal."
Tottenham made seven changes to their squad, leaving out Harry Kane, Mousa Dembele, Erik Lamela and Kyle Walker, but Tuchel said he wasn't surprised because Tottenham are also challenging for the Premier League title.
"We were expecting it a bit because they did it before," Tuchel said. "They are close to Leicester in the league. They have a chance to win an extraordinary title so they made some changes.
"But we made some changes and we didn't lose our performance. We did not care so much."
Reus scored twice in the second half after going goalless in his past four games. It was the first time he had scored twice in a game since October, and Tuchel said the performance should help the player's confidence.
"Nothing helps quite like goals," Tuchel said. "That'll give him a boost. I'm absolutely delighted for Marco. He sets himself high standards and is striving towards a level of fitness that allows him to tackle and counter-press with absolute sharpness every three days. We are working on this. These two goals will help him get there."
Ilkay Gundogan, whose agent was pictured this week meeting Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain, did not play, with Dortmund insisting the midfielder had a problem with his foot.
"We don't know. We looked at his foot and he could not play," Tuchel said. "Maybe if we gave him a special shoe that would allow him to play we could try that."
Aubameyang scored his 33rd goal of the season against Tottenham, but Tuchel is confident the striker will stay with the club this summer.
"Everybody has to accept he has a long-term contract without the possibility to step out," Tuchel said. "I can imagine a lot of clubs see his performance, his talent and his personality and imagine Auba plays for them.
"But we have our own goals. We want to keep this squad together and develop into something extraordinary. We want to have players that lift our status.
"It is not our goal to give him away. I cannot see the future but if you ask me as a coach, I'm very happy he has a long-term contract."
