Dede's testimonial draws 80,000 Borussia Dortmund fans

More than 80,000 football fans attended a testimonial for former Borussia Dortmund left back Dede on Saturday.

News agency dpa reports 81,359 supporters turned up to see "Dede's world selection" beat "Dede's national team" 13-11 at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, a record attendance for a player's farewell.

The game was officiated by Babak Rafati, who quit as a Bundesliga referee following his suicide attempt before a game in November 2011.

Dede, whose full name is Leonardo de Deus Santos, remains a firm favorite among Dortmund fans and players after 13 years at the club.

The Brazilian joined from Atletico Mineiro in 1998, scored 12 goals and set up 45 more in 322 Bundesliga games, and helped Dortmund to league wins in 2002 and 2011 before leaving for Turkish side Eskisehirspor.
