Kevin Grosskreutz's Borussia Dortmund future to be decided soon

Borussia Dortmund's Kevin Grosskreutz says the next few weeks will decide whether he has a future at the club.

Grosskreutz, 27, made his first appearance since February when he played almost 20 minutes of Dortmund's friendly win over Luzern on Tuesday.

The Germany international had knee surgery in April and said he was happy to have put what he recently termed the most difficult time of his career behind him.

But the versatile defender and midfielder also warned that he has a long way to go before proving if he is both fit enough and good enough to earn a new contract at Dortmund.

"I'm simply overjoyed," he told Bild. "During my time out, I even doubted myself if I would make it back.

"The next few weeks will show whether I will continue to play at Borussia Dortmund or not."

Grosskreutz's contract at Dortmund runs until the end of the season, with Bild reporting that Liverpool or Celtic would be the player's dream destinations if he leaves Germany.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gonzalo Castro says he left Bayer Leverkusen this summer because Dortmund have a better chance of winning silverware.

Castro, 28, signed a four-year deal after Dortmund paid Leverkusen €11 million to buy him.

"I would have liked to win a title with Bayer -- we went close a couple of times," Castro told SportBild.

"But now I want to try to do it with Dortmund. BVB have already proven that the probability of winning something is maybe bigger here than in Leverkusen.

"They've shown that in the last few years by winning the league twice, the double and reaching the Champions League final."

Castro also said he hopes to earn a recall to the German national squad. He has won just five caps for Germany and believes that might be down to the way Bayer Leverkusen are perceived.

"It could be that Leverkusen don't have the standing of other clubs," Castro said. "But other teams like Bayern and Dortmund have built that for themselves, in that they've won a lot of titles and provided many players for the national team."
