Mats Hummels set for Dortmund return

Mats Hummels could make his long-awaited return for Borussia Dortmund against Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday following a two-month injury absence.

The 25-year-old centre-back suffered an ankle injury during Germany's friendly against England in November 2013, the second huge blow for Dortmund’s defence after Serbia international Neven Subotic’s ACL tear the week before, and Juergen Klopp's side have won only one of their six Bundesliga games without Hummels.

Dortmund have picked up just five points from their last seven league games as Bayern Munich dominate the standings, and Klopp will now rest his hopes on the return of Dortmund’s “Mr. Indispensable,” as the official Bundesliga website dubbed the defender earlier this week.

“[Hummels] made a very good impression. It looked really good,” Klopp said about Hummel’s return to the action in a mid-week friendly between Dortmund's and Bochum’s reserve sides.

“That didn’t surprise me as he had already completed three sessions with the team before,” Klopp added.

Klopp is aware of the fact that only a win at bottom-placed Braunschweig will end the crisis talk at the Westfalenstadion, stating: “We will fight for the three points.”
