Dortmund confident over Lewandowski

Borussia Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke believes the ball is in the German champions’ court regarding the future of striker Robert Lewandowski.

Robert Lewandowski has attracted interest from a number of European clubs
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski, 24, who is under contract to Dortmund until 2014, recently turned down a new deal that would have made him one of the top earners at the club.

Several European clubs are reportedly interested in signing the target man and there have been some suggestions that Dortmund are willing to cash in on their player during the summer.

However, Watzke has claimed that the club are not interested in selling Lewandowski at any price.

“Everybody acts like Lewandowski’s contract ends in the summer. That is not the case,” he said. “That’s why we are in a comfortable situation. We’d be delighted if we received positive signals. But we do not have to say we need to receive signals every week.

“If Robert stays this would increase our chances of reaching Champions League. We have earned €39 million in Champions League so far.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reported that Wolfsburg are interested in signing Dortmund striker Julian Schieber during the transfer window.

Schieber, who only signed for Dortmund from Stuttgart during the summer, has yet to score in the Bundesliga but was on target in Dortmund’s 1-0 Champions League win over Manchester City in December.

Later on Thursday morning the article disappeared from the newspaper’s webpage, however, kicker have also linked the player with a possible transfer to Wolfsburg, but say the deal will not be done until the summer. Yet elsewhere, according to Ruhr Nachrichten, Dortmund have made it clear to Wolfsburg that they are not willing to let their player go.
