Willy Sagnol will take charge of Bordeaux next season in his first senior club coaching role, according to L'Equipe.
France's main sports daily reports that the 37-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 club before boarding the plane to Reunion Island for an end-of-season tour with the France under-21 team.
Sagnol has coached Les Bleuets since last summer after taking on the role having previously been the French Football Federation's (FFF) national team's manager.
The former Bayern Munich full-back, who succeeds Francis Gillot at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, follows in the footsteps of former France international teammate Laurent Blanc, who made Bordeaux the first stop of his club coaching career in 2007.
Though he has made an excellent start to life in the dug-out with the French youth side, winning his first six EURO 2015 qualifiers, Sagnol told RMC on Thursday he felt he still had much progress to make.
"My feeling is clear: I came into the federation three years ago," he said. "I was at Bayern Munich, where I was involved in recruitment. I came to the federation because I was interested in the project. With President Le Graet, we have always been clear. I consider myself a man of projects.
"I go where the projects take me, and if there are projects that I think are interesting for me, for my personal development, other than at the federation, at that moment, I will leave. I have spent two-and-a-half years at the federation. I have learned a lot and I have more to learn."
Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane was previously linked with the post, but was ruled out of contention by Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud, who cited the World Cup winner's close ties with Madrid as the main block to a move.
