Transfer Talk: Jose Mourinho urged Man United not to pursue Cristiano Ronaldo

The transfer window in all of Europe's big five leagues is now closed, but that doesn't stop Transfer Talk from rummaging through the remains of the summer window to scrounge up the earliest bit of gossip about who will be moving where come January.

TOP STORY: Mourinho urged United not to sign Ronaldo

When it became clear that Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving Real Madrid this summer, Jose Mourinho pleaded with the Manchester United hierarchy not to re-sign their former No. 7, according to the Mirror.

The outlet states that Mourinho couldn't justify a £90 million transfer fee and wages of £500,000 a week for a 33-year-old attacker when he felt the club's biggest needs were in defence.

Of course, United would fail to deliver their manager the defensive reinforcements he so desperately wanted in the summer, missing on Diego Godin, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire.

Spurs scout Ajax starlet

Tottenham are taking a closer look at Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong with a view to a future move after opting against making an offer this summer, the Express reports.

The Dutch prospect is also said to be on the radar of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, and now Spurs are monitoring the 21-year-old.

Ajax rate the starlet at around £40m, and Spurs will be eager to track his development in the Champions League, with the Dutch giants drawn with AEK Athens, Bayern Munich and Benfica in the group stage.

Ajax face Vitesse on Sunday, with Spurs likely to have a scout present to take in the contest.

Pogba wants January Juve return

It's been two years since Paul Pogba left Juventus. If Tuttosport is to believed, it will only be another six months before he returns.

The Italian outlet writes that Pogba has kept in touch with Bianconeri staff and former teammates. The Turin club's addition of Ronaldo in the summer has only made a homecoming that much more attractive to Pogba.

And with the Champions League abolishing cup-tie rules this season, the France international could make the switch in January and help the Old Lady in her quest for a first European Cup since 1996.

- Manchester United are still irritated with Diego Godin after pursing the Atletico Madrid star this summer due to their belief they were used in order to secure the player a new deal, according to the Mirror.

- Liverpool are set to receive the first bonus payment from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian played his 25th match for the Spanish side, Sport reports. Barca will now pay the Reds €5m of a potential maximum of €40m to go with the initial €120m fee. Another €20m will come after Coutinho's 100th appearance, followed by €10m for Barca qualifying for the Champions League every season until 2022-23, and finally €5m should they win the competition.
