Porto veteran Iker Casillas remains on radar for Liverpool and Newcastle
With the January window on the horizon, there's plenty brewing in the transfer market. All the latest deals and potential deals can be found here.
TOP STORY: Liverpool eye Casillas
Iker Casillas is being lined up for a move to the Premier League as Liverpool and Newcastle United monitor his situation at Porto, reports The Sun.
The former Real Madrid keeper has been left on the bench in recent weeks and took to Instagram with a mournful post after being omitted from the starting lineup for Porto's recent Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
Now 36, Casillas is understandably keen to see out his career in the first XI. And with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius still struggling to impress at Liverpool, the Reds could emerge as a tempting option.
Rafa Benitez is also thought to be keen on the 167-cap Spain international, despite Rob Elliot's good form this season for Newcastle.
Arsenal chase 'next Ozil'
Who wants the old Mesut Ozil when you can have the new Mesut Ozil?
That's the message coming out of Arsenal this week as the Gunners plot a bid for Stuttgart starlet Berkay Ozcan, claims the Daily Mirror.
The 19-year-old has confirmed talks with the north London club after being tracked by Arsene Wenger for the past two years.
Like Ozil, Ozcan was born in Germany to Turkish parents, and has chosen to represent Turkey at international level.
The midfielder is unsure whether the timing is right to sign for Arsenal, however, as he wants to maintain his development in the Stuttgart first team.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News claims that Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only three clubs Ozil is interested in joining when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The playmaker looks set to shun a new deal at Arsenal and has remained on good terms with Jose Mourinho after the pair worked together at Real Madrid.
Reus weighs future
Manchester United and Arsenal will be intrigued by Marco Reus' recent interview with GQ magazine in which he hints at leaving Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires in two years' time.
Reus, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and is currently out with a cruciate ligament tear, said, "On 31 May, 2019, I will be 30 years old. That would be my last big contract and my last chance to try something different again.
"I think I have to be so honest and fair -- and I do not know where I'm going now. At the moment I feel very comfortable in Dortmund."
United and Arsenal have both been credited with a longstanding interest in the Germany international, but might want to see how he responds to his latest injury setback before making their move.
- Arsenal want at least £30 million for Alexis Sanchez in January, claims The Sun. The forward is hopeful of reviving his move to Manchester City, but the Gunners could scupper the transfer by asking for such a high fee with only six months remaining on Sanchez's contract.
- Liverpool are planning to offer England's under-17 World Cup star Rhian Brewster a bumper new deal when he turns 18 in April, reports the Daily Mail. The striker scored a hat trick against Brazil on Wednesday to send England through to the final, but is yet to sign a professional contract at Liverpool after joining the Reds from Chelsea in 2014.
- Newcastle and West Brom are eyeing Wolves midfielder-turned-defender Conor Coady, according to The Sun. The former Liverpool youngster has impressed in Wolves' back three this season after being converted to a centre-back by new boss Nuno Santo, and is reportedly valued at around £7m.
- Marc Overmars could bring Ajax pair Matthijs de Ligt and Kasper Dolberg with him to Arsenal if he is appointed as the club's new director of football, Mundo Deportivo notes. The former Gunners winger, who is currently fulfilling the same duties at Ajax, is being considered for the role following the departure of transfer supremo Richard Law in September.
