Barcelona lodge fourth bid, now worth £138m for Philippe Coutinho

Paul Mariner says Liverpool's rejection of Barca's bid for Coutinho sends a message to fans about the club's intentions.

The football world is awash with gossip. Transfer Talk is monitoring the whispers ahead of all the summer moves. Check out the latest deals and potential deals here.

TOP STORY: Barca ready fourth Coutinho bid

Barcelona are preparing a staggering fourth offer worth £138 million for Philippe Coutinho, according to Sky Sports, despite Jurgen Klopp reiterating the situation has "100 percent not changed."

The Blaugrana's desperation could finally outweigh the Reds' stubbornness, and it would be a considerable show of strength after what has been a horrendous fortnight for Ernesto Valverde's side.

The third bid from the La Liga giants was criticised for the lack of money up front and while Liverpool maintain no offer will be accepted, should a guarantee reach close to £100m, it's understood that their stance may begin to shift.

LIVE BLOG:

23.10 BST: That will do it for our live Transfer Talk for Wednesday. Check back in a few hours for the latest on Philippe Coutinho, Kylian Mbappe and all the rumours and links from Thursday's papers. Take care!

23.00 BST: The Telegraph report that Chelsea are hoping to complete deals for Englishmen Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley. Antonio Conte is determined to complete the trio of deals with Arsenal's Oxlade-Chamberlain the top priority for the Italian.

Drinkwater has been linked often to the London club and with Chelsea's shortage of midfield depth would make a lot of sense.

Barkley is the wildcard of the group as the Evertonian has fallen out of favour with Ronald Koeman and is currently out injured. Did I mention Everton visit Chelsea this summer? Spicy.

22.45 BST: Spanish outlet Diario Gol write that Arsenal are lining up a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema if Alexis Sanchez leaves the club prior to the summer window shutting.

Arsenal have been linked with Benzema on a few separate occasions in the past but any move for Benzema would seem to involve Real Madrid first securing Kylian Mbappe from Monaco. This one feels like a long ways off but Benzema up top with fellow Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette would be fun for sure.

22.30 BST: Despite all the focus on Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and now Angel Di Maria, reports out of Spain have tabbed Valencia's Dani Parejo as a potential recruit for Barcelona. According to Sport, Barca are still focused on their top targets such as Coutinho but have approached Valencia about the feasibility of a deal. The 28-year-old Parejo had one of his better seasons last campaign, notching six goals and nine assists for Valencia.

22.10 BST: Staying at Liverpool, the Reds have also shown interest in Kovacic's Real Madrid teammate Lucas Vazquez. Vazquez would be the likelier of the two to be on the move and seems to be out of look when it comes to playing time at the Champions League holders. Arsenal are also targeting the Madrid reserve, who has shined brightly when given the opportunity.

22.03 BST: After striking out with Naby Keita, Liverpool have turned their attention to Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to the Express. The 23-year-old Croatian gets lost a bit behind the likes of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric and could be keen on a larger role somewhere else.

Reports out of Spain claim that Zinedine Zidane is hell-bent on keeping Kovacic and realises a need to offer him more playing time in order to entice him to stay.

21.52 BST: French radio station RMC report that QPR's Yeni Ngbakoto has rejected a move to return to France with Nantes.

21.30 BST: The Mirror claim that that West Brom's Jonny Evans is set for a £30 million move to Manchester City. The former Manchester United defender is reportedly on City's shopping list but their initial bid of £18m was rejected by the Baggies.

Expect City to make another bid in the coming days but Guardiola has publically stated that his club will not held hostage on transfers. We shall see.

21.13 BST: Stoke City are closing in on Arsenal target Bjorn Engels, according to reports from the Sun. The 6'4" Brugge centre-back has been linked with Arsenal this summer but now is close to signing a deal with the Potters. The 22-year-old has featured for Belgium at the underage levels and would be the third centre-back along with Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins-Indi that Mark Hughes covets for his three centre-back system.

20.48 BST: DONE DEAL The done deals keep rolling in as Championship side Hull have announced the signing of 23-year-old defender Stephen Kingsley from Swansea City. The Scot has been with Swansea since 2014 and made 12 appearances last campaign for the Swans. Full Story.

18.35 BST: Middlesbrough have seen an offer for Brentford playmaker Jota rejected by the London club, the Northern Echo reports. It says Boro offered their championship rivals £4.5m, but the Bees rate Jota at closer to the £8m mark bid for in-demand midfielder Jota.

18.05 BST: Watford boss Marco Silva has identified a problem -- he only has one senior left-back, Jose Holebas, who will be suspended for the match against Brighton on Saturday. Cue a late transfer window arrival in that position? Silva made it sound that way, telling a news conference: "I've said since the first match that it's impossible to prepare for a season with only one left-back."

However, The Guardian reports that the forward is reluctant to be shipped off temporarily for a sixth time, having previously had spells at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos, Villarreal and Sporting Lisbon.

16.01 BST: There could be two more outgoings at Arsenal, with Goal claiming that both Jon Toral and Krystian Bielik are set for exits before the transfer window closes. Tor is being lined up for a £3 million move to Hull, while Bielik may be joining Leeds or Nottingham Forest on loan.

Chelsea eye shock move for Vardy

Antonio Conte is likely to have secured a late flurry of spending in the market by masterminding Chelsea's Wembley win over Tottenham and the Mirror believes Jamie Vardy is set to be one of his targets in the final days of the window.

The England striker has started the season strongly for Leicester and while speculations surrounding departures has centred around Riyad Mahrez or Danny Drinkwater, who is also wanted by the Blues, Vardy could be on his way if a suitable offer arrives.

Linked with Arsenal last summer before snubbing a move to the Emirates to sign a new deal, Vardy may be running out of opportunities to play in the Champions League again.

While Alvaro Morata should replace Diego Costa, Conte wants depth and appears unsure on Michy Batshuayi's ability to meet his requirements.

Mustafi emerges as Juventus target

Shkodran Mustafi is now a target for Juventus, claims Turin-based Tuttosport, as they finally prepare to replace Leonardo Bonucci after his shock move to AC Milan.

The Old Lady could move for the Arsenal star to strengthen their back line, which appears to be lacking a top centre-back in their prime.

Arsene Wenger would surely be unwilling to sanction a move for the German international this late in the window, unless the Gunners received another piece in return.

A talented young defender such as Daniele Rugani would fall into this category but the Bianconeri rate the 23-year-old highly and Massimiliano Allegri started him in the Serie A opener against Cagliari last weekend.

Tottenham front runners for Keita

Keita Balde is seemingly heading for London and Tottenham as a €30 million bid is being prepared, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The Lazio forward has been frozen out after refusing to sign a new deal with the Biancocelesti, while moves to Inter and Juventus have failed to materialise.

Strained relations have hurt the Senegalese international's hopes of moving to Turin, which now puts Spurs in a strong position to take advantage and add much-needed pace in the wide areas and a potential back-up for Harry Kane.

Following their defeat at the weekend, the ESPN FC crew wonder if they've set the bar too high for Tottenham this season.

Burnley close in on £9m Waris

Sean Dyche is set to splash the cash to build upon a solid start to the season for Burnley with the Mail claiming the Clarets will spend £9m on Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris.

After selling Andre Gray for £18m, Burnley have reacted quickly by bringing in Chris Wood from Leeds for £15m, but Dyche is keen to bring more depth to his attack.

West Ham, West Brom and Brighton were all keen but Waris is now set to move to Turf Moor after catching the eye last term with nine goals and four assists in Ligue 1.

Tap-ins

- Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are competing for Aston Villa starlet Andre Green and the Mirror reports that the clubs watched him in action against Reading last week.

Villa could sell the 19-year-old, who has also been watched recently by Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, due to there being just two years left on his contract.

- Marseille and Monaco have emerged as surprise contenders to land Diego Costa if Chelsea and Atletico Madrid can secure a deal first, reports the Telegraph.

The Ligue 1 giants may be willing to take the Spain international on loan, due to Atletico's transfer ban, with the 28-year-old's future still up in the air entering the final week of the window.

- Roma continue to search for attacking reinforcements and Gianluca Di Marzio reports the Giallorossi have picked up talks with Barcelona for Munir.
