Transfer Rater: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool, Douglas Costa to Spurs
Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today's top five emerging whispers for the summer. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool
He may have played a key role in Arsenal's FA Cup final win over Chelsea, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could soon leave the club. The versatile 23-year-old has once again been linked with a move to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his squad for next season's Champions League campaign. The player has operated in several different positions this term, including wing-back, but has professed his desire for a central midfield role. And talking to a BT Sport panel following the cup final victory, he also admitted his admiration for a Liverpool legend, saying: "I've always wanted to be Steven Gerrard, so I've still got a hope of that!"
Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea
After the FA Cup final defeat provided a disappointing end to what was a successful debut season in charge of Chelsea, Antonio Conte is set to strengthen his attack this summer. And according to Spanish daily Marca, he will opt to pursue Romelu Lukaku over Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata. The Belgian finished behind Harry Kane in the Premier League scoring charts after hitting 25 goals in 37 appearances, and he could soon be on his way back to Stamford Bridge to replace Diego Costa atop the champions' forward line.
James Rodriguez to Inter Milan
After an underwhelming campaign that saw multiple changes of manager and a poor seventh-place finish in the Serie A table, Inter Milan are seeking reinforcements this summer. One potential addition could be Real Madrid's out-of-favour playmaker and purported Manchester United transfer target James Rodriguez. Rumours in Italy have been backed up by Spanish outlets AS and Mundo Deportivo, who report that the Colombian may soon be on his way to the San Siro in order to revitalise his career in a €40 million deal.
Douglas Costa to Tottenham Hotspur
Having failed to build on an exceptional maiden season in the Bundesliga, Douglas Costa could leave German champions Bayern Munich for Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian winger will be hoping to get his career back on track in 2017-18, and he could do so in the Premier League, where his pace, skill and directness would fit right in. However, Mauricio Pochettino's side will face competition for the player's signature from Juventus. According to Italian outlet La Stampa, the Champions League finalists have already lodged a €25m bid for the 26-year-old.
Robert Snodgrass to Brighton and Hove Albion
The 2016-17 season was a tale of two halves for Robert Snodgrass. He was hugely influential for Hull City before joining West Ham United in January, where he failed to truly assert himself in the starting line-up. And after just six months in London, he could be on the move again. Newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion could be the Scotsman's next destination, with Seagulls boss Chris Hughton keen on improving his squad in a bid to ensure his team's survival next term.
