Transfer Rater: Milan Badelj to Chelsea, Jordan Pickford to Tottenham
Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.
Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest rumours...
Scott Hogan to Reading
Brentford striker Hogan has scored 11 goals in 18 league appearances so far this season, and his impressive form has turned the heads of fellow Championship side Reading. The addition of a prolific striker to Jaap Stam's side in January could be the difference when it comes to the fight for promotion. Whether Brentford would be willing to sell such an important player in a season that's shaping up to be a relegation battle is another thing.
Quincy Promes to Liverpool
The loss of Philippe Coutinho to injury and the impending departure of Sadio Mane to the African Nations Cup has left Jurgen Klopp pondering January signings to boost his attacking options. The Liverpool boss tried to sign Promes for Borussia Dortmund, and the Dutchman's ability to play in a variety of forward roles would offer cover for a number of the Reds' current absentees.
Milan Badelj to Chelsea
Croatian international Badelj has been essential to Fiorentina this season, and his performances for La Viola have attracted the attention of a number of clubs, including Antonio Conte's Chelsea. The 27-year old is predominantly a defensive midfielder, but he is also able to fill in at centre-back, something that will be of interest to the London club considering the age of John Terry, the form of Branislav Ivanovic, and the inexperience of Kurt Zouma.
Jordan Pickford to Tottenham
Young goalkeeping talent Pickford has been one of the few positives for Sunderland this season. Spurs are reported to be keen on the England Under-21 international as a replacement for Hugo Lloris, should the Frenchman leave the North London club in the summer.
Aleksandar Mitrovic to West Ham
Serbian forward Mitrovic may have been overshadowed by Dwight Gayle so far this season, but that hasn't stopped West Ham taking an interest in the striker who scored nine and assisted four in Newcastle United's ill-fated 2015-16 campaign. The Hammers are looking to bolster their attacking options in a bid to stave off an unlikely relegation battle, but it'll take a sizeable bid to prise Mitrovic from the Magpies, who are seeking an instant return to the Premier League.
