22.41 BST: Liverpool could be set to lose one of their defenders:

22.30 BST: Saphir Taider is set to leave Southampton just three weeks after arriving on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old midfielder joined Saints on loan for the campaign on Aug. 6, with a view to signing permanently from Inter Milan. Taider did not fit into the group of players or manager Ronald Koeman's work ethic, meaning he is packing his bags already and could be on the way to Sassuolo.

22.11 BST: Victor Valdes' representative, Gines Carvajal, claims that the former Barcelona goalkeeper will be joining a big side before 2015 arrives. "One can sign at any time and I'm sure we'll see Valdes at a big team before Christmas," he told Cadena Ser's 'El Larguero'. "The recovery is going well, but we do now yet know when he will be cleared [to return to action]."

21.38 BST: Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi claims that Ezequiel Lavezzi will not be leaving the club anytime soon. "Lavezzi's future? There are no players leaving," the Qatari told reporters. "All of our players are bound to a contract with PSG. They will either remain until the end [of their contracts] or renew [their deals]."

17.15 BST: Ronald Koeman has told reporters Gaston Ramirez is not for sale after a move to Sevilla broke down at the last moment. The Dutch boss said of the Uruguayan: "He's a very good player because I know him, I see him in the training sessions but he had a big problem. Torres deal to be done at last?

What seem likely to be Fernando Torres' final days at Chelsea have passed rather agonisingly, with there being little secret that the club are desperate to move him on. They may get their wish soon: The Telegraph says that discussions are well afoot with Torres' representatives about how to get him to AC Milan, with Jose Mourinho and co preferring to get him off their hands on a permanent deal rather than a loan. It's looking complicated though, and so too is Chelsea's pursuit of Torres' potential replacement, Roma striker Mattia Destro. Now that the Italians have sold defender Medhi Benatia to Bayern Munich for 24 million pounds, they consider themselves well placed for a game of hardball. Alternatives apparently include Jackson Martinez and, intriguingly, Loic Remy.

Falcao focal for Gunners?

ESPNFC's own Miguel Delaney says that Arsenal, despite their protestations, are keen on a move for the in-demand Radamel Falcao, and the Express backs up the notion -- suggesting that the Gunners, who have pulled out of a possible move for Edinson Cavani, would like to get this one wrapped up on a short-term basis before the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus come calling. Monaco seem willing to let Falcao leave, and now time is of the essence as Arsene Wenger looks to close a deal that would certainly excite fans concerned about a lack of numbers in the centre-forward position.

With Olivier Giroud out until 2015, the suddenly available Radamel Falcao would bolster the Arsenal strike force.

Cleverley does it for Lambert and Villa

The exodus of Manchester United fringe players might just have started. No sooner had Wilfried Zaha joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan than news emanated from another Telegraph story that Aston Villa have agreed an eight million pound deal with the Red Devils for the much-maligned Tom Cleverley. Hull and Everton are also interested, but you sense that Villa -- whose recruitment has hardly been extensive or overwhelming -- particularly need this one. It might be one that keeps us burning the midnight oil on Monday.

Sokratis to give defensive lessons at Arsenal?

Who are Arsenal signing today? The Mirror has one possible answer, this time suggesting that their search for top-class centre-back competition has led them to Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

In a move not remotely sponsored by their shirt lettering suppliers, the Gunners are tempted to throw 12 million pounds in the direction of their forthcoming Champions League opponents -- a particular carrot for the player himself being that he is finding it hard to break the pairing of Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic. Whether he can do that to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker remains to be seen, but the Greek international had a good World Cup and would be an attractive prospect. Now it remains to be seen whether Dortmund will budge on their apparent 20 million pounds valuation.

Dortmund's Sokratis Papastathopoulos could end up facing his current teammates in the Champions League should he complete a move to Arsenal.

Keogh to survival for Burnley

Top-flight minnows Burnley could seemingly use some reinforcements after losing their first two games, and The Sun says that they are in for Derby centre-back Richard Keogh, who could be set to leave the Championship side with contract talks going nowhere fast. Keogh, the Rams' captain, would command a fee of around 1.5 million pounds -- although it seems unlikely that a deal would be done in time to allow him to debut against Louis van Gaal's floundering Manchester United.
