Rodwell on his way to Sunderland

Top picks: Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim insists that Radamel Falcao will not be leaving the club this summer amid interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona remain hopeful of tying up a deal for Fiorentina's World Cup star Juan Cuadrado though are reluctant to meet the Viola's 50 million euro valuation, and Jack Rodwell travels to Sunderland to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed 10 million pound move from Manchester City.

Done deals: Chelsea midfielder Oriel Romeu joins Stuttgart on a season-long loan; Australia international Ivan Franjic signs for Torpedo Moscow.

22.52 BST That's it for today, but don't dismay! Our newspaper round-up for Tuesday will be with you before you can say Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

22.41 BST More Norwich news now, and St Etienne have declared their interest in non-scoring goalscorer Ricky van Wolfswinkel.  "He played a pre-season friendly against us two years ago. He hurt us a lot and we all noticed his quality," St Etienne manager Christophe Galtier told L'Equipe. "Since the end of last season, we had noticed his name. He is a box player, which has the technical quality of Dutch players. They really have a good school for footballers but for men too."

22.35 BST What's this we spy? Yes, it looks like PSG might have dropped a bit of a clue as to their next transfer business. Is Angel Di Maria a done deal? And as ESPN FC's Alex Shaw points out, does it follow that Radamel Falcao will now leave Monaco for Real?

22.09 BST Norwich manager Neil Adams says no club has yet met the asking price for Netherlands international Leroy Fer.  "There is no deal accepted. There is no offer accepted. He is our player and he is back training with us. I have said many, many times I want to keep Leroy. He is coming back from the World Cup and of course there is bound to be interest in him. Ideally, you want to keep him," said Adams. Fer has been linked with both Southampton and Queens Park Rangers.

21.42 BST It's on! This Liverpool fan has taken a selfie with Javier Manquillo at Liverpool airport this evening! He's set to sign for the Merseysiders on loan from Atletico Madrid.

20.57 BST Juventus defender Frederik Sorensen is the latest Italy-based player to be linked with a move to Leeds United after the Championship club was taken over by Massimo Cellino. The Danish centre-back is linked with a season-long loan.

20.29 BST Rafael Marquez's medal-laden brief spell back home in Mexico with Leon appears to be over. He is going to sign for Hellas Verona, just like Antonio Luna.

"The club wants to thank Rafael Marquez for his dedication and professionalism during his stay at the club, where two league titles were won, and the participation at the Copa Libertadores and CONCACAF Champions League," Leon president Jesus Martinez wrote on the club's official website. Full story here.

20.14 BST Not a done deal this time, but it's getting that way. Chile World Cup star Gary Medel is reportedly on his way to Italy to sign for Inter Milan. It is said he will leave relegated Cardiff City to move to Serie A in a deal worth an initial nine million euros.

19.51 BST Here we go again with a DONE DEAL! Udinese have signed Paraguayan player Ivan Piris from Deportivo Maldonado on loan for the season with a view to a permanent deal.

19.36 BST Another DONE DEAL and this time it is a young Arsenal striker who is heading out on loan for the season.

19.14 BST DONE DEAL - Perhaps a bit of a surprising one this, but Aston Villa have announced that Antonio Luna has left the club to join Serie A club Hellas Verona on a season-long loan.

19.10 BST Carlos Valdes has re-signed for Philadelphia Union.

18.53 BST Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce has confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow are set to sign for Newcastle. The deal will see both players remain at the City Ground for the 2014-15 season as part of a loan arrangement between the two clubs, but the Reds boss insists the highly-rated pair have been allowed to leave against his advice.

18.29 BST DONE DEAL - Leeds United have swopped on AC Milan to sign Zan Benedicic.

17.41 BST Here's the full story on Sunderland closing in on the signing of Jack Rodwell from Man City.

17.25 BST Watford signing a player from Italy! Who would have thought?

The Hornets have announced that experienced Italian midfielder Gianni Munari will join the club from Parma on a season-long loan.

The 31-year-old has previously enjoyed spells at Palermo, Verona, Lecce, Fiorentina and Sampdoria, and will wear the No.3 shirt at Vicarage Road.

17.20 BST Fourth time lucky? Burnley have had a third bid for Craig Dawson turned down by West Bromwich Albion.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche is determined to strengthen his defence ahead of the club's return to the Premier League but the Baggies are not prepared to let the 24-year-old go on the cheap and are reportedly demanding more than three million pounds for his signature.

17.10 BST Barring a gratuitous offer, Arturo Vidal will continue his reign at Juventus, writes ESPN blogger James Horncastle. Read his article on the Chilean midfield maestro here

17.05 BST Some more news on Jack Rodwell now, where Sky Sports journalist Graeme Bailey says that the fee agreed between Manchester City and Sunderland is in excess of 10 million pounds.

17.00 BST Sources have told ESPN that Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell could be announced as a Sunderland player as early as Tuesday after the clubs agreed a fee for the 23-year-old.

The former Everton prodigy has travelled to the Black Cats training ground where he is expected to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

16.50 BST West Bromwich Albion record signing Brown Ideye is looking forward to kickstarting his Baggies career after confirming that his work permit has been granted.

16.40 BST Sporting Lisbon are prepared to allow striker Islam Slimani move to the Premier League, according to reports in Portugal.

A Bola claims that Leicester City have made the Portuguese side a tempting offer of eight million pounds for the 26-year-old plus a further two million in incentives.

Slimani was one of Algeria's standout performers at the World Cup and his goals against South Korea and Russia helped fire the Fennec Foxes into the knockout stages.

Leicester City have reportedly made a bid for Algeria international striker Islam Slimani.

16.30 BST Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo is on the plane to England to finalise his loan move to Liverpool.

The 20-year-old defender was at Atleti's Cerro del Espino training ground on Monday, but left before Diego Simeone's players began their training session.

AS says that Manquillo will undergo his medical at Liverpool within the next 24 hours and he is expected to join Brendan Rodgers' side on a two-year loan deal with view to a permanent transfer.

16.20 BST Deportivo are hopeful of tying up loan deals for three players ahead of their return to La Liga.

Marca reports that the newly-promoted Galician side have enquired about the possibility of bringing Manchester City midfielder Bruno Zuculini and Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori to the Riazor while they have already begun talks with Benfica for highly-rated Portuguese forward Ivan Cavaleiro.

16.10 BST Mainz winger Nicolai Muller is on the verge of joining Hamburg in a 4.5 million euro deal.

The 26-year-old, who has two international caps for Germany, has already said goodbye to his teammates and will undergo his medical tomorrow.

16.00 BST Juventus have been told to stump up 20 million euros if they want to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

PSG remain hopeful of signing of Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria and the 26-year-old's arrival would pave the way for Lavezzi to leave the club.

Reports in Italy claim that the former Napoli winger is keen on a move to Turin though both Milan sides are also keeping tabs on the situation.

15.50 BST New York Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh has dismissed reports that Ronaldinho is set to join the MLS side.

There were reports that the 2005 FIFA Ballon d'Or winner would reunite with former Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry in the Big Apple after he left Atletico Mineiro last month, but Roxburgh says he has not even considered a deal for the 34-year-old.

"Nobody has ever approached us. We haven't been approached by anybody mentioning Ronaldinho," he told

"All I'm saying is this, as the sporting director of this club, and I can speak also on behalf of my other colleagues in the business, we have not been approached about him. Nobody has offered us Ronaldinho. No one has said 'How much money?'

"I saw his name but I've never talked to Ronaldinho or his people or made any offers. And the answer is we wouldn't be doing it anyway. It's not a matter of did we or didn't we? Or who spoke to him or who didn't speak to him? A great player by the way, fantastic player by the way. He's not for here."

New York Red Bulls have denied speculation linking them with a move for 2002 World Cup winner Ronaldinho.

15.35 BST England under-17 international midfielder Daniel Crowley has signed a professional contract with Arsenal.

15.30 BST Is Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho on his way to Arsenal? Portuguese football expert Jan Hagen gives his insight on the latest developments...

15.20 BST Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez is closing in on a move to Monaco.

With Keylor Navas having joined from Levante and Iker Casillas still on the books, the 32-year-old has been told he is not in the club's plans and is now considering offers. Read the full story here.

15.10 BST Everton boss Roberto Martinez is hopeful of bringing two or three more players to Goodison Park this summer, with Tom Cleverley on his list of potential options.

The much-criticised Manchester United midfielder is expected to discover his United fate in the coming days and Martinez is keen to reunite with the 24-year-old who he coached at Wigan.

The Daily Mail says that Anderlecht striker David Henen is closing in on a move to Everton while the Toffees also harbour hopes of tying up loan deals for Chelsea winger Christian Atsu and Monaco striker Lacina Traore

Elsewhere, Swansea midfielder Jose Canas is due to hold talks with Spanish club Elche while Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul is a target for Lazio.

14.55 BST Swansea City are weighing up a bid for Celtic right-back Adam Matthews, according to the Daily Record.

Garry Monk is determined to strengthen his defence ahead of the new season and considers Matthews a more affordable target than Tottenham's Kyle Naughton.

Celtic could be tempted to cash in on Matthews, with Mikael Lustig and Darnell Fisher ready to step into his role, though the Bhoys have slapped an eight million pound price tag on Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk in an attempt to cool interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

14.45 BST Levante confirm that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign goalkeeper Jesus Fernandez.

The 26-year-old managed just two competitive first-team appearances for Los Blancos since joining in 2010 but will fight for the No.1 spot at the Ciutat de Valencia following the departure of Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

14.35 BST Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho believes that Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan would be an excellent addition to the Ligue 1 club.

Gaitan, 26, has been heavily linked with Liverpool and Manchester United this summer but Moutinho thinks the midfielder would be an ideal fit for Leonardo Jardim's side and the perfect replacement for James Rodriguez.

"He [Gaitan] would be a great signing. He's an excellent player -- if he comes he would help us with his quality. If not, we still have a good group," Moutinho said.

14.25 BST Notts County have signed former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll. The 36-year-old Northern Ireland international, a free agent after leaving Greek champions Olympiakos, has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Sky Bet League One club.

After losing Bartosz Bialkowski to Ipswich last month, Carroll will be Notts' number one this season and will start against Preston at Deepdale when the 2014/15 campaign begins on Saturday.

14.20 BST Villarreal are interested in signing Fenerbahce winger Milos Krasic.

The former Juventus man, who was once touted as a future Ballon d'Or winner by Pavel Nedved, is keen on a move to the Yellow Submarine but also has offers from Elche and a club in Russia.

However, Marca says that Villarreal must first offload Mexico international Javier Aquino whose proposed move to Celtic collapsed last month.

14.10 BST Manchester United are prepared to use Shinji Kagawa as bait in an attempt to lure Arda Turan to Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal says he will sit down with certain individuals to tell them they are surplus to requirements after the club's tour of USA and it is speculated that Kagawa may be one of those to get the dreaded call.

The Daily Star speculate that United will offer 16 million euros plus Kagawa for Atletico Madrid's Turkish star but Diego Simeone is reluctant to allow any more players to leave the Vicente Calderon.

14.00 BST Trabzonspor are expected to complete the signing of Paraguay forward Oscar Cardozo from Benfica later this week.

The 31-year-old, who scored 11 goals in 32 appearances for the Portuguese champions last season, has already passed his medical at the Turkish club after he reportedly turned down offers to move to England.

13.50 BST West Brom head coach Alan Irvine is confident of winning a Football Association work permit appeal hearing for Cristian Gamboa.

Costa Rica international Gamboa has already agreed personal terms with the Baggies and passed a medical, but his move from Rosenborg has been delayed after failing the required criteria for a permit.

Although Gamboa played in all five of Costa Rica's matches during the World Cup, the 24-year-old falls just short of appearing in 75 per cent of his country's games over the last two years.

"We're not in control, it's out of our hands, but I think it would be amazing if we didn't get this one over the line,'' said Irvine on the club's official website.

"Cristian has played just over 70 per cent of the games for his country, but they've factored into those figures a non-Fifa ranked tournament which his club (Rosenborg) stopped him going to."

13.35 BST Juventus director Beppe Marotta admits the club are continuing their search for reinforcements at the back. ESPN blogger Mina Rzouki takes a look at some potential candidates to strengthen the Bianconeri defence. Read the article here

13.25 BST Former Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra is prepared to boycott Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow in order to push through a move to Napoli, according to reports in Italy.

Rafael Benitez has made it no secret that he hopes to sign a new central midfielder and Diarra is one of the names at the top of his shortlist.

The 29-year-old Frenchman is determined to make the move to Naples but his wage demands could prove a stumbling block for the Serie A side.

13.15 BST Brazil international Dani Alves could be on the move to Inter in a six million euro deal.

The 31-year-old has just one year left on his existing contract and Barcelona are prepared to let him go, having already eyed up Fiorentina's Juan Cuadrado as his replacement.

Sport says that the Nerazzurri hold the strongest interest in Alves though the player has made it clear that he would prefer a move to the Premier League.

Inter are exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona full-back Dani Alves.

13.00 BST Everton's attempts to take Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on loan have hit a snag, according to The Daily Mail.

Chelsea signed the Ghana international from Porto last summer for a reported 3.5 million pounds before instantly loaning him out to feeder club Vitesse.

Jose Mourinho wants assurances that the 22-year-old will feature regularly in the Toffee's lineup this season but Roberto Martinez is reluctant to offer such guarantees, meaning that Chelsea could offer Atsu's services elsewhere.

12.50 BST Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is planning on holding talks with captain Ron Vlaar in a bid to resolve the defender's future.

With one year remaining on the Dutchman's contract, and following his stand-out performances for Holland in the World Cup, Vlaar has since been linked with a number of clubs, notably Serie A pair Juventus and Lazio.

"Ron's got another year still to go on his contract, it's not as if he's at the end of it," Lambert told The Birmingham Mail.

"Once we get back I'll sit with him, we'll have a bit more time, but he loves it at Villa, that's well known."

12.40 BST Costa Rica's World Cup star Keylor Navas has arrived in Madrid. The 27-year-old goalkeeper will be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player this afternoon following his estimated 10 million euro move from Levante.

12.35 BST With the transfer window past its halfway point, the squads in England's top flight are starting to take shape. ESPN FC takes a look at 10 arrivals who are set to make their Premier League debut. Read the article here

12.30 BST All aboard the transfer merry-go-round! Real Madrid are lining up a move for Brazilian midfielder Luis Gustavo should Sami Khedira pack his bags for the Premier League, El Confidencial reports.

Khedira has just one year remaining on his current contract and the Spanish side would prefer to cash in on the World Cup winner now rather than lose him on a free next summer.

And Gustavo's departure is starting to look increasingly likely amid reports that Wolfsburg have agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid for unsettled Frenchman Josuha Guilavogui. Watch this space!

12.20 BST Sunderland are eyeing up a surprise swoop for Cameroon international striker Samuel Eto'o.

The 33-year-old is currently without a club following his release from Chelsea earlier this summer and Gus Poyet is desperate to add a new striker to his ranks following his failed attempt for Liverpool's Fabio Borini and Connor Wickham's reluctance to agree a contract extension.

TalkSPORT says that Poyet is prepared to offer Eto'o a bumper deal after negotiations broke down with West Ham.

12.10 BST DONE DEAL! Brisbane Roar have confirmed that Australia international Ivan Franjic has joined Torpedo Moscow.

The 26-year-old won three A-League titles with Roar and featured in the Socceroo's 2014 World Cup campaign.

Brisbane Roar Managing Director Sean Dobson told the club's website: "This is a fantastic opportunity for him to continue his career development by playing in an overseas league.

"He has played a big part in our recent success, playing over 100 games for Brisbane Roar, and we thank him for being a loyal servant to our football club over the past five years."

12.00 BST Milan have pulled out of the running to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina as they are not willing to pay his 100,000 pound weekly salary.

The Spanish shotstopper now faces the very real prospect of keeping the bench warm at Anfield next season as Napoli, where he played on loan last season, have also withdrawn their interest.

The Independent says that Liverpool are reluctant to subsidise Reina's wages as part of a loan agreement and would prefer him to leave on a permanent deal.

11.50 BST Arsenal are prepared to offload Spanish duo Mikel Arteta and Nacho Monreal this summer, according to

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a new defensive midfielder and any arrival could pave the exit for Arteta to leave after three seasons at the club.

Arteta has been earmarked by Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde as a possible replacement for new Manchester United signging Ander Herrera while Monreal could help solve the Basque club's defensive issues.

11.40 BST Jack Rodwell, remember him? Well, the former Everton prodigy could be on his way to Sunderland, with Gus Poyet prepared to offer him a way out from his Manchester City nightmare.

The 23-year-old has made just 16 league appearances since joining the Premier League champions in 2012 and The Manchester Evening News claims that Poyet considers Rodwell as the ideal candidate to fill the void left by Jack Colback in the Black Cats midfield.

11.30 BST Lorient and prepared to rival Lens for the signing of Wolves' Mali international Tongo Doumbia.

The 24-year-old impressed on loan at Valenciennes last season and is keen for a move away from England despite Wolves' promotion to The Championship.

L'Equipe says that both Ligue 1 clubs are interested in signing Doumbia, while Elche and Celta Vigo are also keeping tabs on the midfielder.

11.20 BST Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has quashed talk of him retiring and insisted he wants to carry on playing for at least one more season.

The 39-year-old recently completed a two-year spell in Australia with Sydney, playing his last competitive match in April, but he will return to captain them in the A-League All Stars clash with Juventus on Sunday.

"I don't think so," the 2006 World Cup winner said when reporters asked if this could be his last game. "It could be my last game in Australia. My plan is to play on. Now I have to choose what is the best for me with the opportunities I have but I want to play on."

"I'm in good shape to play on again, to play for one more year. And this is my idea."

11.10 BST Southampton rebel Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is expected to arrive in Milan today ahead of his proposed loan move to Inter.

The 28-year-old striker has already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri but reports in Italy claim the deal is not yet completed as Southampton are trying to tie up exchange loans for Saphir Taider and Ezequiel Schelotto.

Osvaldo is expected to undergo a medical at Inter's training complex tomorrow and it is anticipated that he will begin training with his new teammates on Thursday.

11.00 BST DONE DEAL! Derby County have bolstered their attack by signing Leon Best from Blackburn on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international is hoping to rediscover his best form after spending the majority of the last two seasons sidelined by injury.

"He is a player with Premier League and Championship experience, knows how to score goals and he will provide a different option in our attacking armoury," Rams boss Steve McClaren told the club's website

10.50 BST Arsenal have renewed their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho after failed attempts to lure Sami Khedira and Morgan Schneiderlin to the Emirates.

Despite already splashing out over 60 million pounds this summer, Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is still browsing the transfer market and has identified a defensive midfielder as the missing ingredient in his Gunners lineup.

O Jogo claims that Arsenal have made a 30 million euro bid for the Portugal international who is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.

Reports in Portugal claim Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

10.40 BST Nice Matin says Simon Pouplin, 29, could replace David Ospina at the Allianz Rivieira. The former Freiburg and Rennes goalkeeper has been without a club since his contract with Sochaux was ended by mutual consent earlier this summer.

And Pouplin may not be the only new face at Nice, with reports that the Ligue 1 club are also interested in signing 35-year-old Senegal international centre-back Souleymane Diawara who was released by Marseille.

10.30 BST Arsene Wenger has given his opinion on Manchester City's signing of Frank Lampard, admitting that he is worried the Manchester side's policy of buying up clubs around the world could see them sidestep Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Read the full story here

10.25 BST Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is planning a raid on former club Stoke City and hopes to sign versatile defender Mark Wilson.

The Daily Star says that Pulis is getting frustrated in the transfer market and is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements following the departures of Danny Gabbidon, Jonathan Parr and Dean Moxey.

The Eagles boss is also hopeful of bringing Stoke midfielder Steven N'Zonzi to Selhurst Park while he is keen on Marseille winger Morgan Almafitano, who impressed on loan at West Brom last season.

10.15 BST A central defensive pairing of Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, that partnership could be about to become a reality with reports that the France centre-back is on the verge of finalising a 32 million pound move to Manchester City.

The 23-year-old is viewed as the missing piece in Manuel Pellegrini's jigsaw as the Citizens prepare for their Premier League title defence and the Manchester Evening News claim that the Porto man could be unveiled as a City player within the next few days and could make his debut in the Community Shield clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

10.05 BST Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is optimistic the club can convince Marco Reus to stay and has rubbished speculation Shinji Kagawa could rejoin the club.

Surely Dortmund aren't going to lose another player to Bayern Munich...are they? Read the full story here.

Borussia Dortmund are hopeful of keeping Marco Reus at the club despite complications over his contract.

09.55 BST West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has wasted no time strengthening his squad this summer and it seems that another player is on his way to The Hawthorns.

Reports in Australia claim that the Baggies have agreed a deal with Socceroo's left-back Jason Davidson, who played in all three of his nation's games at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Premier League club after he refused to extend his contract at Eredivisie side Heracles.

09.45 BST Barcelona are refusing to surrender in their pursuit of Fiorentina's Colombian World Cup star Juan Cuadrado.

The 26-year-old remains Luis Enrique's No.1 target this summer but the Italian club are standing firm on their 50 million euro valuation, despite the fact that the player has already agreed terms with Barcelona.

Marca says that the Catalan club are prepared to battle until the last day of the transfer window to sign Cuadrado while they are slowly turning their attentions to land Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen after growing frustrated in their efforts to bring Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos to the Camp Nou.

09.35 BST Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim believes Radamel Falcao will be part of the principality's push for the Ligue 1 title this season.

The Colombia international signed a five-year deal with last season's Ligue 1 runners-up only last summer following his estimated 60 million euro move from Atletico Madrid and scored the only goal against Arsenal yesterday on his first start since rupturing his knee ligaments in January.

And despite being constantly linked with a return to the Spanish capital, where Real Madrid are desperate for him to link up with former Monaco teammate James Rodriguez, Jardim insists that the prolific forward will not be leaving the Stade Louis II.

"At this moment in time, Falcao is our player, and he is with us 100 per cent. We don't want to let him leave," Jardim told RMC.

"It's a shame that we have lost James Rodriguez, but we can count on Falcao. It matters little what people say, he's our player. He's in the last stage of his recovery, and he'll be with us this season."

Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim is adamant that Radamel Falcao will not be leaving Monaco this summer.

09.25 BST Despite lavishing him with praise last week, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has ruled out the prospect of signing Mario Balotelli as a replacement for Luis Suarez.

Reports in Italy claimed that Liverpool had begun negotiations with Milan for the Italy international striker, but Rodgers refuted the allegations.

"I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool,'' Rodgers told a news conference on the eve of Liverpool's game against Manchester United in Miami.

That seems to put an end to that rumour. Read the full story here.

09.15 BST After three transfer windows without a permanent signing, Newcastle United simply cannot stop spending this summer. Magpies boss Alan Pardew has already brought in six players since the end of last season and that number is expected to rise to eight in the coming days.

Highly-rated Nottingham Forest duo Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow are believed to be on their way to Tyneside today to undergo medicals at the club. However, neither will feature for Newcastle this campaign as they will be immediately loaned back to Stuart Pearce's side.

08.47 BST: DONE DEAL! Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has joined Stuttgart on a season-long loan deal.

08.43 BST Mattia Destro has turned down an offer from Wolfsburg, according to Sky Sport Italia. The Roma forward was subject of a bid worth 25 million euros.

08.24 BST: La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus will launch a bid for PSG's Ezequiel Lavezzi should Arturo Vidal's proposed move to Manchester United go through, although the Turin club have once again insisted the Chilean will be staying put and flying with them to the Far East on Monday.

Pardew hopes to make it a double

Could Connor Wickham be about to follow in Jack Colback's footsteps and cross the Tyne-Wear divide? In an article centred around Newcastle manager Alan Pardew's promise that new arrival Facundo Ferreyra will not be the last of his signings, the Mail casually drops the bombshell that Newcastle are keen on the Sunderland man, who apparently has not yet been offered the new contract that Black Cats boss Gus Poyet demands he signs.

Wickham is in demand after his barnstorming finish to last season, his contract situation raising hopes that he could be snapped up for a knockdown fee. And perhaps he's now just feeling lonely without Colback, alongside whom he played at previous club Ipswich Town. Either way, he may have a choice to make: Monday's Sun claims that Sam Allardyce and West Ham are hot on his trail, too.

Wickham or no Wickham, one of Pardew's hoped-for additions may go through very soon indeed! The Mirror has its own news of a Magpies swoop, saying that Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles could join for 3 million pounds as soon as Monday.

Lascelles, just 20, was pulled out of Forest's preseason friendly with West Brom and seems a fair bet to be on his way. A superb breakthrough season in the Championship last term, in which he shone during his 34 appearances, sent scouts flocking to the City Ground -- and Newcastle's appear to have persuaded Pardew to make his move.

Saints move for Mitchell?

Southampton's preseason appeared to hit rock bottom with news that Artur Boruc was being eyed by Bayern Munich, who aren't the first club you associate with a burning need for a new goalkeeper. It just seemed to be getting a little cruel. But they're on the way back now, and being linked with players all over the shop.

The latest, again in the Mirror, is highly promising young Manchester United winger Demetri Mitchell, just 17, whom Southampton manager Ronald Koeman would be keen to sign on loan. There appears little scope for a longer-term deal, and it's not exactly the kind of transfer Saints fans might be hoping for after the departure of half a team -- but hey, we're just the messenger.

Spurs packing the defence

Hat trick for the Mirror? Go on then, just this once. Their sleuths have discovered that Spurs, pretty quiet in the market until their recent move for Eric Dier, are really stepping things up now -- they are set to further strengthen their back line by securing the signature of Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, the Argentine centre-back or right-back, for a cool 17 million pounds. The plan? To pair him with Jan Vertonghen, who appears to have been kept from Barcelona's clutches.

Chadli offered as bait?

Here's a story that unites the subjects of our past two snippets. There's more from the Sun, which says that Spurs' move for Morgan Schneiderlin -- which will surely soon qualify for the word "saga" -- remains alive and well, with Nacer Chadli set to be dangled in front of the St Mary's posse as bait.

Chadli is certainly versatile, but had a mixed first season in England and there's no guarantee that he will be Koeman's cup of tea. His pedigree in the Dutch league with FC Twente might, though, be part of Spurs' thinking as they look to smoke the Saints' hierarchy out with this one -- the Netherlands are certainly their preferred supermarket at the moment.

Simply Rade

Bosnia-Herzegovina's slightly disappointing World Cup performance has not prevented their players from remaining in vogue. This one didn't even have to feature in their senior squad.

TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Rade Krunic, a 20-year-old playmaker and member of Bosnia's under-21 side who currently struts his stuff at Serbian Superliga side Donji Srem, is likely to join Serie A side Hellas Verona. It's certainly going to be a step up for Krunic: his present employers are based in a village of just 2,500 people.
