19.18 BST: Jose Mourinho says he is happy to keep Petr Cech despite Thibaut Courtois' return to Chelsea -- but he said he would also be happy to rely on Mark Schwarzer as back-up if necessary. With the Blues needing to offload a foreign player, it does seem like Cech could be the man to make way despite his many years' reliable service.

"We have competition for places all over the pitch," he told Sky Sports News. "This is a club that wants to be strong and have real possibilities to compete for trophies so we need competition in every place.

"I know Mark Schwarzer is a very good goalkeeper, very stable, a group man, completely ready to be our second goalkeeper like he was last season when we needed him to play, so if he is our second goalkeeper we feel very safe with him, but to have Petr and Thibaut together in the same squad is a good problem for me."

19.00 BST: Colombia international Juan Fernando Quintero is rumoured to be on his way to Arsenal. The attacking midfielder has been at Porto since last summer.

18.44 BST: Colombia international Carlos Bacca has been linked with Everton, Newcastle and Zenit St Petersburg but he's told ABC de Sevilla there haven't been any offers and he's happy at Sevilla.

18.20 BST: Herediano midfielder Jose Miguel Cubero could be about to bolster the heavily depleted Blackpool ranks as the Championship season draws ever nearer.

17.29 BST: Burnley boss Sean Dyche is confident of bringing in a few more signings before the season starts. The Daily Mail reports he is closing in on West Brom defender Craig Dawson and has submitted a three million pound bid. Although interested in Troy Deeney, a move for the striker is unlikely to materialise because of the eight million pound asking price which Dyche says the club can't afford to spend on one player.

17.23 BST: Southampton are reportedly eyeing up an ambitious move for Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez. The newly cash-rich south coast club are willing to part with 15 million pounds in order to grab the Mexican's signature among interest from Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

17.19 BST: New Borussia Dortmund hotshot Ciro Immobile has told reporters Robert Lewandowski is in the past, and he is the club's future. Speaking at a press conference he said: "Lewandowski's legacy isn't really on my mind. Robert scored a lot of goals for this club. I don't know if I'll score me, but he has gone and I am here now."

17.15 BST: West Ham have had some big names linked to them over the course of this transfer window, which is a credit to them and their ambition, but none bigger than former Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid striker Samuel Eto'o. The Daily Mail says the Cameroon international is desperate to stay in London and is currently negotiating a deal to sign for the Hammers.

17.10 BST: Flamengo are the latest club to be linked with a move for AC Milan forward Robinho, who is set for a cheap exit from the club this summer. Already linked with Besiktas, Orlando City and Santos, Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello told SporTV: "There is nothing concrete as far as the arrival of Robinho to Flamengo goes."

17.04 BST: Atletico Madrid are going to try and buy Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United according to TalkSport. The Japan international has found form and games hard to come by at Old Trafford and is expected to leave this summer with former club Borussia Dortmund also in the hunt for his signature.

16.22 BST: Napoli have turned their attention to Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti and defender Stefan Radu. Lalaziosiamonoi.it report that Napoli are looking at the duo to shore up their defensive department, and a bid could be in the offing soon. Lazio president Claudio Lotito is loathe to lose his two stars, but a bid of combined bid of 15 million euros for the pair could force his hand.

Iago Aspas, speaking to ABC de Sevilla and quoted by the Mirror, has told Alberto Moreno he shouldn't join Liverpool and should stay in Spain. Can't imagine that went down too well at Melwood.

15.15 BST: Wolfsburg, still smarting from missing out on Romelu Lukaku, are going to rival Tottenham for the signature of Roma forward Mattia Destro, according to the Daily Star.

15.10 BST: Earlier we reported West Brom were making an audacious bid to sign Haris Seferovic from Real Sociedad. Well now it appears Tuttomercatoweb are saying the Swiss striker is going to be the subject of interest from Eintracht Frankfurt who are ready to make a bid in the coming days.

15.04 BST: Everton have raided Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku and are now being reported by the Daily Mail as going in for Christian Atsu on loan. The report claims the Toffees are close to sealing a deal now that Lukaku is a permanent transfer, they can loan the Ghanaian from the Blues.

13.53 BST: Sevilla have sold defender Alberto Botia to Greek champions Olympiakos for an undisclosed fee, the Spanish club said on Thursday. Olympiacos are coached by Spaniard Michel, who had Botia under his orders at Sevilla two years ago.

13.41 BST: Sunderland heartthrob - no really he way - Santiago Vergini is hopeful a permanent deal can be concluded in the next few days. He had been on loan from Estudiantes in the second half of last season but reports seem to suggest a deal should be done soon.

Reports in Italy suggest the Saints are desperate for reinforcements since their huge summer firesale. 13.25 BST: Southampton have already identified a replacement for Spurs-bound Morgan Schneiderlin in the form of Norwich City's Leroy Fer. Boss Ronald Koeman is said by the London Evening Standard to be rivaling QPR for the five million pound man's signature.

12.58 BST: Hull City face competition from Crystal Palace for former Fulham defender Brede Hangeland who is available on a free transfer, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

12.52 BST: Man Utd fans will be questioning why the club haven't bought more defenders since the departures of Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Well it appears Louis Van Gaal doesn't care much for defenders and could have bought Stefan de Vrij but instead, according to the Daily Star, TOLD the Dutch stopper to join Lazio instead of join him at Old Trafford.

12.30 BST: Reports this morning suggested Spurs were closing in on one Sporting youngster in Eric Dier. Well A Bola are reporting they could lose another to Al Ahly in Egypt inthe form of Ramy Rabia who could be sold for 650,000 euros.

12.26 BST: Former Spurs youngster Paul-Jose M'poku is a target for Rafa Benitez at Napoli according to reports. The Spanish manager has made no secret of the fact he wants new midfielders and it appears the young Standard Liege man is a prime target.

12.11 BST: ESPN's own Miguel Delaney believes Chelsea are preparing a 40 million pound bid for PSG's Edinson Cavani and despite what he says publicly, he wants the move.

12.05 BST: Belgian midfielder Steven Defour claims he is but a phone-call away from joining PSV from Porto. A Bola are reporting his agent Paul Stefani as saying: "We are waiting for a call from FC Porto. Defour would like to play at PSV."

It is though the deal has stalled because PSV won't go over five million euros for the midfielder but Porto are expected to allow him to leave sooner rather than later.

11.29 BST: Rafa Benitez looks like he is about to get rid of one of his Swiss midfielders in Valon Behrami who is having a medical with Hamburg, according to Bild. The report claims Napoli will receive 4.5 million euros for Behrami who Benitez highlighted as a player he anted to replace at the Stadio San Paolo.

11.21 BST: AC Milan have ruled themselves out of the running to sign Adrien Rabiot after revealing to TuttoSport that they have been told the player has an agreement with Juventus and PSG have an agreement with Inter Milan. Leaving them basically in no man's land. 

11.16 BST: And here is Spanish side Elche confirming the signing of Enzo Roco from the Universidad Catolica de Chile. He was apparently on the 30-man shortlist to go to the World Cup with Chile but was axed from the final squad.

11.14 BST: Despite links with a move to Benfica, Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero has told an Argentine TV programme, reported by Tuttomercatoweb, that he wants to return to Monaco. He says his daughters do not want to lose touch with their classmates and he hopes a move back to the principality can materialise.

10.58 BST: Reports in Bild claim Barcelona are one of several clubs interested in Marco Reus following his rejection of a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. Then 24 hours later Mundo Deportivo claim he is a number one target for the Blaugrana and that Andoni Zubizarreta is keen to negotiate with the German club to secure his signature. Seems like they've jumped the gun a little on this one.

10.52 BST: James Rodriguez is already stirring the pot and towing the Real Madrid line as he talks up a move for former Monaco teammate and Colombian compatriot Radamel Falcao to the Bernebeu. AS quote him as saying: "It's up to the President. It might happen because Falcao has the quality and attitude. I've been playing alongside him for four years. We stopped when he joined Atletico Madrid. He has a winning mentality and that's what you want at Madrid. Hopefully he can come."

10.47 BST: It wasn't going to take long was it for Galatasaray's name to be thrown into the ring for Hatem Ben Arfa's signature. Turkish outlet Fanatik claim Cesare Prandelli wants to bring the Frenchman to Istanbul and could gain his services for just five million pounds.

10.43 BST: Real Betis are said to be keen on Sunderland's Alfred N'Diaye. The Spanish club have had a 1.5 million pound bid rejected already according to the Sunderland Echo and are hoping to bring Sunderland chiefs to the table to work out how to structure a deal once a fee is agreed. It is thought Betis will want to pay a sum up front and then add-ons should they be promoted to the Primera Division.

10.40 BST: Apparently Spurs are tracking Villareal's Mateo Mussachio so that they can release Jan Vertonghen to Barcelona, AS are reporting.

Jan Vertonghen will be celebrating a new contract at Spurs sooner than a move to Barcelona - sorry AS.

10.33 BST: Erm... it's more Southampton news. And another exit. Sorry but Jack Cork is being linked with a move away from the club amid interest from Crystal Palace and Swansea. However the Scunthorpe Telegraph claim Cork is now being tracked by West Brom who are also chasing his signature.

10.29 BST: QPR are reported to be closing in on a double swoop for Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer. Get West London have claimed the Ajax man will be unveiled soon while a four million pound bid for Fer is currently up for negotiation with Norwich City.

10.23 BST: Hatem Ben Arfa's exile from the Newcastle United squad has seen him linked with moves away but none quite so far as Ukraine. According to the The Journal, the Frenchman is wanted by  Dnipro however are only willing to part with 1.5 million pounds in order to get him. Newcastle reportedly want around 10 million.

10.20 BST: Newcastle United's forgotten man, who once played for Manchester United remember, Gabriel Obertan has reportedly been told he has no future at St James' Park. The Sunderland Echo are reporting the Frenchman has been told to leave 'so he can gain more first team opportunities.' In other words, Alan Pardew doesn't think he is good enough.

10.14 BST: Alan Pardew is desperate to bring in a new striker as he prepares his squad for the new season he told the Sunderland Echo. However he also claimed it would notbe Alexandre Lacazette due to the player's desire to stay in Lyon one more season. Loic Remy is rumoured to be the man Pardew wants to bring in.

10.10 BST: Crystal Palace are set to renew interest in Stoke City's Steven N'Zonzi after the midfielder handed in a second transfer request according to the Express. The French midfielder is keen to link up again with former boss Tony Pulis at Selhurst Park.

10.00 BST: Just days after negotiating his release from Real Mallorca and Emilio Nsue looks like he has found a new club.

09.55 BST: One player heading out of the Hawthorns though looks to be Craig Dawson who is about to be the subject of a third bid from Burnley. The Prem new-boys are said to be extremely keen and have already seen two bids ranging from one to 1.5 million pounds rejected. The Lancashire Telegraph claim a third bid is imminent and that the defender himself has handed in a transfer request to the Baggies.

09.50 BST: West Brom are looking to raid Real Sociedad for Swiss striker Haris Seferovic according to the Express and Star. Alan Irvine is hoping to bring in another forward and has identified the World Cup hitman as the player he wants. The report also claims the Baggies will be looking to bring in Jonathan Biabany from Parma despite his singing a new deal to 2018 at the Italain club, meaning any deal is likely to be very costly.

Haris Seferovic could be the next big-money signing at West Brom after Alan Irvine has reportedly expressed an interest.

09.45 BST: Bayern Munich have moved to dispel rumours they are in negotiations to bring Sami Khedira to the club. Spanish reports claimed the World Cup winner was in talks and the Arsenal and Chelsea target was told to see out his contract until next year before signing for Bayern on a free. However both Bild and Tages Speigel are reporting that Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has had to release a statement claiming the rumours are "pure speculation."

09.25 BST: Another Southampton player is set for the exit door! But this time it is someone fans expected to leave in the form of Daniel Osvaldo. The Italian is set to join Inter Milan on loan for the season with a view to a permanent deal worth five million euros in a year's time. La Gazzetta dello Sport say the deal will go through even if Saphir Taider can't agree terms with the Saints.

09.22 BST: Sunderland have been so far frustrated in their attempts to sign a new full back, with a deal for Fiorentina's Marcos Alonso still far from being completed. In the mean time Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has revealed the club has had three offers for left-back Christian Fuchs with Sunderland said to be interested. Bordeaux and Palermo have also been linked to the Austria international.

09.18 BST: Lazio and Valencia have both approached Marseille with regard to  Brazilian centre-back, Lucas Mendes, according to today's L'Equipe.

No, this time the boys from White Hart Lane are being linked with a four million pound move for Sporting Lisbon's young English defender Eric Dier. The Telegraph say the youngster wants to return to England after four years away from his parents who moved back to the UK in 2010.

Gerrard hints at Liverpool exit

With only one year left on his Liverpool contract, Steven Gerrard has hinted that the end of his time on Merseyside is nigh.

The Mirror has quoted the midfielder saying, "I've never really discussed it with anyone or thought about it. Maybe one day I would like the chance to go away from Liverpool for a short time and try something different."

It sounds like Gerrard is preparing Reds fans for an exit then at the end of the season, or perhaps this is just a ploy to motivate his teammates for another tilt at the title.

Atletico London?

Chelsea will have a distinctly Atletico Madrid-type flavour to them when they step out to start the Premier League season.

The Blues have already recalled Thibaut Courtois from his loan and brought in Diego Costa and Filipe Luis for a combined 48 million pounds, and now, Chelsea have set their sights on Atletico's 29-year-old Brazilian defender, Joao Miranda.

Having sold David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for 50 million pounds, Chelsea are a bit light in the centre of defence, and The Daily Mail say that Jose Mourinho sees Miranda as the perfect reinforcement.

Sunderland after awesome foursome

Black Cats manager Gus Poyet has already added four new faces to his squad this summer -- Jordi Gomez, Patrick van Aanholt, Billy Jones and Costel Pantilimon -- but is still desperate to add a further four within the next seven days.

The start of the season looms large, and Poyet is worried that the club are behind schedule in filling out their squad.

"It's clear we need a few new players, and it's not been as quick as I would have expected," the Uruguayan manager admitted.

"We're all waiting. One or two are close, but if you asked me last week, I'd say those two were close then, too. I can't wait another week."

According to The Daily Star, the four potential recruits on Sunderland's radar are Fabio Borini, Uruguay midfielder Cristian Rodriguez, ex-Sunderland loanee Marcos Alonso and Lazio defender Luis Pedro Cavanda.
