Mandzukic to Atleti; Sanchez deal soon

FC's Craig Burley and Robbie Earle react to the reports that Alexis Sanchez is on his way to Arsenal instead of Liverpool.

While football fans around the globe watched Germany dominate Brazil in the World Cup semifinals, a scant few made moves on the transfer front. The latest news and rumours from Transfer Talk are here; we still managed to dig up some juicy ones.

22:57 BST Right folks, that's a wrap for today but we'll be back for more transfer news, rumours and gossip tomorrow. See you then.

22:37 BST If you believe some reports floating around the European media then Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is on his way to one of Fiorentina or Athletic Bilbao.

The player's agent, however, is adamant that is not the case, insisting that his client Arteta is happy at the Gunners.

"I haven't heard from any clubs," Inaki Ibanez told Radio Blu. "What are the chances of him leaving? He's the captain of Arsenal, he is an Arsenal player and he's happy here. He also has a contract for another year."

22:23 BST Volyn Lutsk midfielder Michael Babatunde seems rather keen on a move to Sunderland and has urged the club to sign him.

"I have received several offers from different places, but I'm interested in the one from Sunderland," the Nigeria international told www.sl10.ng. "They have contacted my agent, and we will see how it goes from there."

Over to you, then, Gus Poyet.

22:03 BST Diego Ribas has landed in Istanbul for his unveiling as a new Fenerbahce player...

The Brazilian, who spent the second half of last season at Atletico Madrid on loan, is joining on a free transfer after his Wolfsburg contract expired.

21:49 BST Press Association Sport reports that Newcastle remain hot on the trail of Montpellier midfielder Remy Cabella, although they have not yet tabled a fresh bid.

Reports from France on Wednesday evening suggested the Magpies had made an offer of 12 million euros for the 24-year-old.

However, according to Press Association Sport sources, that is not the case, although the club's interest in the player is ongoing.

21:31 BST Benfica duo Joao Filipe and Joao Virginia are attracting interest from a whole host of Premier League clubs, Sky Sports claims.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all interested in Filipe, a 15-year-old winger, and Virginia, a goalkeeper of the same age.

Benfica have offered the pair new long-term deals -- but have yet to reach an agreement with either player -- and they are now preparing themselves for offers from the English sides.

21.03 BST It seems Alexis Sanchez, according to reports, is on the verge of completing his move from Barcelona to Arsenal... And now the Chile international's hairdresser has confirmed the player is leaving the Catalan club...

"Alexis Sanchez came in to say 'goodbye' today. Over the last three years we've had the pleasure of cutting his hair, and we'll greatly miss him," the local hairdresser posted on Facebook.

20.12 BST Another of the Premier League's new boys have been busy securing the future of one of their players today, with Burnley's Scott Arfield signing a fresh three-year contract with the Clarets.

"I'm delighted to have extended my deal with the club as this is where I want to be playing my football under this management," Arfield told the club's official website. "We had a great year last season and this is a club going in the right direction so I'm made up to be a part of that."

19.32 BST Some details for you on that deal...

Giovani dos Santos, meanwhile, has already welcomed his younger brother to the club...

19.24 BST: DONE DEAL! Villarreal have confirmed the signing of Jonathan dos Santos from Barcelona. The 24-year-old midfielder, who had struggled to break into the first team at the Camp Nou, will link up with his older brother Giovani.

19.16 BST Some more news emerging from Serie A coming up next... Tuttosport claims Juventus forward Fabio Quagliarella is set for a return to city rivals Torino, with a deal all but done.

Quagliarella will sign a three-year contract and replace Ciro Immobile, who joined Borussia Dortmund last month.

18.55 BST Here is that full story for you now on David Nugent signing a new two-year deal with Premier League new boys Leicester City.

18.37 BST More for you now on Mehdi Benatia, whose club Roma have, according to the Guardian, set a July 21 deadline for the sale of the defender.

Manchester City are believed to be after the centre-back but would prefer Porto's Eliaquim Mangala, meaning they have yet to make the Italian club an offer.

Roma, therefore, want Benatia's future sorted as soon as possible, and have set a deadline that falls on the day both sides start their preseason tours.

18.05 BST We've spoken briefly today about Divock Origi, with Tottenham apparently trying to hijack Liverpool's move for the Lille striker... Well, the man himself has told the Liverpool Echo that he is undecided on his future, while adding he has a number of offers on the table.

You can read the full story right here.

The 21-year-old forward is reportedly keen to leave Shakhtar Donetsk despite joining the Ukrainian champions last summer.

Shakhtar value Bernard at around the 20 million pound mark and Wenger is believed to be keen on making a move as Arsenal put the finishing touches to the capture of Alexis Sanchez.

17.25 BST Premier League newboys Leicester City have announced that former England striker David Nugent has signed a new two-year deal at the club.

The 29-year-old scored 20 league goals to fire the Foxes to promotion last season and admits that he is looking forward to testing his ability in the Premier League.

"I'm delighted to have signed for two years and I'm really looking forward to testing myself with the rest of the squad in the best league in the world," Nugent told the club's official website.

17.20 BST It was only a matter of time, wasn't it? That familiar rumour linking Arsenal with Salomon Kalou has resurfaced, with The Daily Star reporting that it will cost the Gunners five million pounds to secure his services from Lille.

The Ivory Coast international scored 16 goals for the Ligue 1 side last season and it is understood that Arsenal are his preferred destination, despite interest from Roma, Monaco, Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton.

17.10 BST More now on the news that we brought you earlier regarding Diego Alves' contract extension at Valencia.

Speaking at a news conference to announce the new contract, Alves insisted he was always willing to stay at Valencia, despite lengthy negotiations over a new deal, and said the arrival of new owner Peter Lim had no bearing on his decision. Full story here.

17.00 BST Antoine Griezmann has put a number of European clubs on alert after he rejected the offer of an improved contract at Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old has two years to run on his current deal but AS say that the San Sebastian outfit could cash in on the France international this summer rather than lose him at a cheaper price next year.

Griezmann has a buyout clause of 30 million euros which could tempt the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, PSG and Monaco.

16.45 BST West Ham United have announced that French midfielder Alou Diarra has left Upton Park after two years at the club.

16.40 BST Dusan Tadic hopes he can be part of a new chapter in Southampton's history, with manager Ronald Koeman close to bringing more fresh faces to St Mary's.

"I heard the club has a history, and I watched them last year and they played really good football," Tadic told Southampton's official YouTube channel.

"I hope me and Southampton are going to have a good future.''

16.30 BST L'Equipe says Wolfsburg have identified Atletico Madrid's out-of-favour midfielder Joshua Guilavogui as the ideal candidate to replace Luis Gustavo should the Brazilian leave the Bundesliga side this summer.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has struggled to settle at the Vicente Calderon since moving from Saint-Etienne last summer and returned to Les Verts for the second half of the season on loan.

Marseille are also believed to be interested in Guilavogui who is free to leave Diego Simeone's side for around 12 million euros.

16.15 BST Leeds United have confirmed the signing of former Italy Under-21 goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

The 23-year-old arrives at Elland Road on a four-year contract after Leeds agreed an undisclosed fee with Chievo.

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool in a 7.7 million pound deal last summer but has since struggled to make an impression for Brendan Rodger's side, scoring just once in 15 appearances.

Aspas could be brought in by Sevilla as a replacement for the in-demand Carlos Bacca or to simply add competition to the Europa League holders' attack.

15.40 BST Sky Sports journalist Amy Lewis has tweeted that Swansea have launched a bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

It is also reported that Emanuele Giaccherini is determined to stay and fight for his place at the Stadium of Light amid interest from Galatasaray.

15.00 BST Louis van Gaal is prepared to give Manchester United outcasts Anderson and Bebe one final opportunity to salvage their Old Trafford careers, according to The Manchester Evening News.

Bebe, 23, hasn't played for United since a 1-0 win over Crawley in the FA Cup in February 2011 while Anderson spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina.

Both players are expected to be involved in Manchester United's preseason tour of the United States where they will have the chance to impress their new manager.

14.55 BST Lazio will not be tempted to cash in on Miroslav Klose following his record-breaking goal for Germany last night.

The 36-year-old forward struck the 16th goal of his World Cup career in the 7-1 demolition of hosts Brazil to surpass Ronaldo in the all-time charts.

"Now we have a champion who has scored the most goals in World Cups," said Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

"In order to receive offers for a player, he must be placed on the market and Klose is not for sale."

14.45 BST West Ham will probably have to raise their bid for Yevhen Konoplyanka to 15 million euros to activate his release clause if they want to sign the Ukraine winger.

"Right now, I don't know what will happen," Martinez told Colombian radio station La FM.

"The Partenopei club [Napoli] has always treated me very well since I arrived there."

Real Madrid are said to be open to the prospect of selling Di Maria as they attempt to raise funds for Monaco's James Rodriguez.

Hummels, who began his professional career under Van Gaal's tutelage at Bayern Munich, is understood to be a more difficult proposition however and Borussia Dortmund are reluctant to sell the 25-year-old.

Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa are among those who Van Gaal may consider offloading in a bid to finance the deals.

CONCACAF keepers good to go

We've seen numerous players raise their club-level stock with impressive performances at the World Cup -- James Rodriguez, Divock Origi and Juan Cuadrado come to mind. But two goalkeepers in particular really made their case in Brazil.

Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa first got on the radar with his clean sheet and amazing saves versus host nation Brazil in the group stage. His strong play continued against Netherlands in the round of 16, even though his El Tri side were eliminated by the Dutch. Ochoa now says in a MediaTiempo.com report that he'll reveal his club fate -- he's currently a free agent, as his contract with Ligue 1 side Ajaccio expired last month -- in a little more than a fortnight.

"Everything depends on the team and what they present," said Ochoa, who noted he has interest from a number of clubs in Europe. "But where I go, I will go confident, happy and, of course, with the intention of playing."

Kaylor Navas of Costa Rica also looks set to take his show on the road from La Liga side Levante, where he allowed just 43 goals in 37 matches on his way to the goalkeeper of the year award. A recent kicker report says Bayern Munich are interested in Navas' services as a backup for No. 1 Manuel Neuer, as we mentioned yesterday. La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are also said to be taking a look at Navas, as Diego Simeone might need to replace this past season's No. 1, Thibaut Courtois, whose long spell on loan from Chelsea has come to an end.

Transfer Talk has learned that a deal to send Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona to Arsenal is almost finished and could be revealed as soon as today.

Sanchez happening today?

Transfer Talk has reported this every which way but loose, but this time it seems an Alexis Sanchez move from Barcelona to Arsenal could happen as soon as today. AS.com has a report with some specifics, including a rumoured 36.7 million-pound transfer fee, a four-year deal for Sanchez and incentives that could earn the Chilean striker as much as 3 million extra pounds next season. It seems Arsene Wenger might win over his counterparts at Juventus and AC Milan, who were also said to fancy Sanchez's services.

QPR might say au revoir to Remy

Speaking of Wenger (he's had a busy summer in the Transfer Talk pages), the Daily Mirror is reporting that the Arsenal boss is this close to bringing countryman Loic Remy to the Emirates from Queens Park Rangers. Remy netted 14 Premier League goals for Newcastle during his season-long loan from QPR, and he featured as a substitute for Les Bleus during their quarterfinal run in Brazil. The move would set Arsenal back a reported 8 million pounds.

Shaqiri shocker

Switzerland's Xherdan Shaqiri raised his flag as a catalyst for everything his team did in their quarterfinal run at the World Cup. The Bayern Munich midfielder looked electric in Brazil and scored one of the tournament's most cracking of goals against Honduras. Now GianlucaDiMarzio.com has joined the chorus of voices reporting that Roma have jumped in the mix, alongside Liverpool, to lure Shaqiri from Bavaria. Pep Guardiola's club have put a 20 million euro price tag on any potential move.
