Cech and Chelsea, Yedlin a hot name

What are you going to do on a World Cup rest day? Here's a thought. Don't waste time scouring the web for all the latest club transfer rumours and gossip, Transfer Talk has your back on that. Without further adieu...

23.00 BST: That's all we've got time for today folks, but we'll be back shortly with the next edition of Transfer Talk. Stay tuned.

22.53 BST: All the Barcelona transfer talk of late has of course been about their pursuit of Luis Suarez, but let's not forget they are probably after a new centre-back this summer too. The Spanish side have been linked with a move for Jeremy Mathieu, however, Valencia president Amadeo Salvo has told them they will need to match the defender's release clause, believed to be 20 million euros, if they want to sign him. "If Barcelona don't pay his release clause, he will remain a Valencia player," Salvo told a news conference.

21.55 BST: An update for you now on Diego Poyet, who we told you earlier had reportedly signed a four-year deal with West Ham. Sky Sports suggests the Charlton Athletic midfielder is now having a medical with the Hammers, while Charlton will be due compensation for the player as he is under the age of 24.

21.00 BST: We mentioned earlier today that Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Alvaro Negredo... Well, they will be pleased to know that apparently Manchester City are willing to let him go. The Daily Mirror reports that Atletico are lining up a 20 million-pound bid for the striker, but City are holding out for an offer in the region of 25 million pounds.

20.18 BST: SUAREZ UPDATE: Despite reports suggesting otherwise, Liverpool and Barcelona are yet to agree on a fee for Luis Suarez, according to Bloomberg's Tariq Panja. "Liverpool at the moment not interested in a straight cash deal for Suarez. They are still pushing to include Alexis Sanchez in deal. Could be another week," Panja said. The saga continues...

19.45 BST: The way things are going, Southampton will be lucky to field 11 players come the opening day of the season. They may be able to call on Jose Fonte, however, as Sky Sports claims the Saints have rejected a bid from Cardiff City for the defender. Having also turned down an offer from Liverpool earlier today for Dejan Lovren, they may at least still have their first-choice centre-back partnership come August.

18.38 BST: SUAREZ UPDATE: Catalan station TV3 claim that a fee has been agreed between Liverpool and Barcelona for the transfer of Luis Suarez. Reports suggest Barca will pay 63 million pounds for the Uruguay striker.

18.13 BST: Sources have told ESPN FC that Colombia left-back Pablo Armero is "desperate to get back to the Premier League on a permanent basis" after struggling to get game time with West Ham while on loan at Upton Park last season. Armero was only recently signed by Udinese, who had previously co-owned him with Napoli before opting to sign him outright.

17.45 BST: ARSENAL BEAT LIVERPOOL TO SIGNING OF SUPERSTAR!..kid. No seriously, Arsenal have beaten Liverpool to the signing of young goalkeeping sensation Hugo Keto of HJK Helsinki. The Finland U19 international had been on trial at Liverpool last season but has decided to move to Arsenal instead after a late change of heart.

17.36 BST: Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting Monaco have turned their attentions to Parma's goalkeeper Antonio Mirante after rejecting the chance to sign Victor Valdes on a free transfer. No negotiations have begun yet though.

Antonio Mirante may find himself on the south coast of France if the rumoured interest from Monaco materialises.

17.28 BST: Nicklas Bendtner again! Yay! This time it is slightly more boring news. His agent has denied a deal has been completed with his client, who is on a free after his release from Arsenal, to Eintracht Frankfurt. He said: "There are options in England, but there are also clubs from other countries in Europe who have tabled offers. There is no agreement with Frankfurt. But there are many clubs who are interested in him and we will inform you very soon where he will continue his career."

17.21 BST: Harry Redknapp at his wheelin' and dealin' best as he looks to bring in Ajax's Finnish striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson. QPR had been interested in him while still in the Championship and are now hoping with Premier League status a deal might go through. They are also monitoring the situation with recently released Croatian striker Eduardo, who is being tracked by several clubs around Europe.

17.15 BST: The transfer window is four days old and Napoli have already shifted their attention between three central midfielders. First it was Tottenham's Sandro but they were priced out of a move for him. Then they moved on to Liverpool's Lucas Leiva but apparently no deal is forthcoming. Now the Daily Star report Manchester City's Javi Garcia is their new £14 million man. This is why we all love the transfer window. This is it!!!

17.11 BST: Ghanaian midfielder Afriyie Acquah has finalised a second consecutive loan to Parma from parent club Hoffenheim after the Italian side were suitably impressed with his first year in Serie A.

17.07 BST: Despite reports linking Isaac Cuenca with an exit from Barcelona this summer, the young winger has reiterated his desire to remain at the Nou Camp and win a place in the first team. He told Esports Cope: "I want to prove myself here at Barcelona. I would love to have an opportunity to prove my worth. I haven't spoken to Luis Enrique yet but I am waiting to meet him."

17.00 BST: The report we read earlier said 'a Bundesliga club.' Now we know it was Augsburg!

16.54 BST: Swansea City and Hellas Verona are set to lock horns in the battle to sign Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero from Mexican side Monarcas Morelia according to Sky Sports.

16.50 BST: It's been something like just short of £200 million Real Madrid have spent on superstar signings in the past few years. First for Cristiano Ronaldo, then for Gareth Bale. Well now reports in Spain claim their new superstar target, James Rodriguez, will cost them a further 75 million euros should they want to lure him from Monaco. That's a lot of money.

16.42 BST: He often gets a lot of stick for some of his more outrageous views on TalkSport and I imagine he will be panned for this suggestion too. But Adrian Durham claims in his TalkSport column that a well connected Italian man he knows claims Arsenal offered just £10 million for Mario Balotelli. If true, that is very cheap. And I mean that in both forms of the word.

16.38 BST: Read the full story on Liverpool's rejected bid for Southampton defender Dejan Lovren.

16.32 BST: Palermo have confirmed they have received no offers for striker Abel Hernandez. Read the full story here.

16.22 BST: Feyenoord and Southampton are at an impasse over the transfer of Graziano Pelle according to a report in De Telegraaf. The Dutch club want more than the £8 million being offered to them but Saints are unwilling to budge any more than that.

16.16 BST: Ajax midfielder Thulani Serero has signed a new contract at the club which will keep him at the Dutch champions until 2017. Should he see out that contract he will be the club's longest serving South African having been at the club six years compared to Steven Pienaar who was there for five years.

16.11 BST: Fellow Portuguese side Sporting Braga are also looking to bring in a youngster of their own. United Arab Emirates side Fujairah admitted yesterday they received an offer from the Portuguese club for young midfielder Mohammed Khalfan who helped his side to promotion to the Arabian Gulf League last season. "I am really surprised to receive an offer to play in Europe," the youngster said. "It is really exciting and every player dreams of playing in the top leagues in Europe. So I hope the negotiations will be completed successfully and I will be able to play in the Portuguese league."

16.05 BST: The transfer of William Carvalho to Manchester United is edging closer to completion as Sporting Lisbon have already begun talks with his replacement. According to the Daily Express, Nigeria U20 star Abellahi Shehu is high on Sporting's list of players to replace the £37 million Manchester-bound man.

15:47 BST: Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is hopeful he will get Chelsea centre back Kenneth Omeruo back on loan next season. Read the full story here.

15.43 BST: The kind of rumour that will have every Arsenal fan drooling! The Metro are reporting the Gunners are looking to bring in a replacement for Bacary Sagna in the form of Cork City's Brian Lenihan. No joke.

15.38 BST: We brought it to you earlier and Marca are bringing it now.

15.35 BST: A couple of links for some mid-afternoon reading from two stories we brought you earlier on this blog. Firstly, Bayer Leverkusen signing Hakan Calhanoglu. The story is here!

Second up is the news Liverpool will have Pepe Reina back in goal next season as he rules out a move to Napoli. Read the full story here.

15.29 BST: Leicester will be doing into the new season as a Premier League club and with captain Wes Morgan tied down to a new deal. He signed a new deal alongside Young Player of the Year Matty James today.

15.24 BST: Gylfi Sigurdsson could be a Reading player if new owner Samrit Bundikitsada is willing to stump up £8 million after describing the Icelander as 'the most wanted player he knows' on Twitter.

15.15 BST: Orlando City are getting greedy! They've just signed former Ballon D'Or winner Kaka from AC Milan and are apparently back in Italy to try and lure his compatriot Robinho to the MLS. The Corriere della Sera assert Robinho could be interested in a deal to the US but any deal will involve some kind of payment to Milan, unlike the deal that brought Kaka to the club.

Robinho could be following compatriot Kaka out of AC Milan and across the Atlantic to Orlando City.

15.07 BST: News from Italy suggests Alvaro Morata, Real Madrid's highly sought-after striker, has agreed a deal in principle with Juventus. Sky Sport Italia say the young Spaniard has been won over by Juve's strong desire to sign him.

15.02 BST: Jonathan Parr was a bit of a cult hero down at Crystal Palace for reasons I simply do not know or understand. His release from Palace was a painful blow for the South Londoners but they'll be happy to know he is not having trouble finding a new club. Ipswich are said to be close to signing the Norwegian.

14.55 BST: Are you an English club? Are you relatively big in stature? Do you have some money? Then you are now a news story. The transfer of Alexis Sanchez has been rumbling on now for a while and we are still no closer to truly knowing where he is going though Arsenal are the favourites. Now the Daily Star claims Manchester United are set to pounce and will offer Barcelona £30 million to hijack any deals in place. Madness I tell you, madness.

14.50 BST: Burnley fans look no further if you want the low-down on new signings Matt Taylor and Marvin Sordell. Read the full story here.

14.44 BST: Aston Villa, another club quiet in the transfer market, should probably be more worried than they are about losing star players Ron Vlaar, Gabby Agbonlahor and Fabian Delph. All three have one year left on their contracts and are yet to open talks on new ones because club owner Randy Lerner has stuck a 'For Sale' sign up meaning no negotiations can take place.

Ron Vlaar could be one of a number of stars at Aston Villa heading for the exit if they can't sort out their contract situation.

Paul Lambert told the regional paper Express and Star: "I don't think anybody will go without me saying so. I think the lads are happy here and want to get going again. Things like that will happen soon."

14.40 BST: Atletico Madrid fans will be pleased one of their heroes from last season will be staying at the club! That is central midfielder Gabi who has signed a new deal with the Spanish champs. Read the full story here.

14.35 BST: It's been on the cards for weeks and months but Gazzetto Dello Sport are now reporting Manchester United are going to make a bid for Arturo Vidal imminently. The report suggests a bid below £40 million will not be considered by Juventus.

14.28 BST: Let's be honest, no matter who you support and where your allegiances lie, everyone wants to know what Nicklas Bendtner is up to. He is currently a free agent... or is he???

Nicklas Bendtner set to make his debut as a pundit for Danish TV today. What could possibly go wrong? #afc

14.23 BST: Leicester City have been a tad quiet on the transfer front so far but news has leaked that boss Nigel Pearson could try and bring in former Australian international Luke Wiltshire on a free transfer. His contract ran out with Dynamo Moscow this summer and the 34-year-old is now in search of a new club.

14.19 BST: Bit of an odd one. Zakaria Bakkali of PSV has been told he will have to wait for a big money move for teammate Memphis Depay before he may get a chance in the first-team. The Daily Express say Depay's move to either Manchester United or Tottenham will free up the space in the first-team for the talented Belgian. If not, then Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be in the hunt for Bakkali. All seems a bit odd...

14.10 BST: Arsenal are confident Barcelona's pursuit of Luis Suarez won't hamper their bid to sign £22 million man Alexis Sanchez. Press Association Sport understands contact has been made with Barca for the 25-year-old Chilean who will be brought in to share the striking burden with Olivier Giroud. They also confirm a bid for Mario Balotelli will not be forthcoming from the Gunners while Arsene Wenger weighs up a possible £24 million bid for Real Madrid's Sami Khedira.

14.05 BST: DONE DEAL! Galatasaray may not have a manager just yet but it is not holding them back in the transfer market as they today confirmed the signing of Olcan Adin from Trabzonspor.

13.59 BST: Here we go. Another wild rumour about a player playing well at the World Cup. This time it is Marcos Rojo of Argentina being tipped for a move to Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona or Juventus according to the Daily Express. A £12 million fee should be enough to convince Sporting Lisbon to sell.

Marcos Rojo could soon be seen celebrating a move to a Premier League club with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal interested in his services.

13.54 BST: A fair analysis of the current state of the English transfer market from Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo.

Why English clubs shop abroad: #NUFC have just signed a 25-year-old former Ajax captain for less than Hull paid for Robert Snodgrass.

13.53 BST: It looks like Arsenal may face competition for the signing of Barcelona's forgotten forward Bojan Krkic as reports from around Andalucia in Spain claim Malaga have declared their interest.

13.50 BST: Read the full story here on Julian Schieber's move from Dortmund to Hertha Berlin.

13.45 BST: I love it when news articles claim a player is moving clubs but doesn't tell you where! That is exactly what Voetbal International have done with PSV Eindhoven's striker Tim Matavz who has apparently agreed a contract with an unnamed Bundesliga club. What joy information that is for a journalist!

13.42 BST: Want to read about former Juventus defender (this is true) Armand Traore signing a new deal with QPR. Of course you do. Read the full story here.

13.41 BST: Remember when Arsenal signed Park Chu Young? That South Korean from Monaco? He's made barely a handful of appearances in some three years with the Gunners? OK fine well basically Turkish side Bursaspor are interested in signing him. I think we can put Park down as a flop.

13.38 BST: Not a bad deal this one. Eduardo is a wanted man around Europe following his release from Shakhtar Donetsk but appears close to a move to Stoke City according to the Stoke Sentinel. Besiktas and Fenerbahce are also interested.

Stoke City have advanced their interest in out-of-contract Croatia striker Eduardo. #SCFC #AFC #CRO #WorldCup

13.32 BST: DONE DEAL! Hamburg have confirmed the signing of Pierre-Michel Lasogga from Hertha Berlin.

Perfekt: Lasogga geht auch weiterhin für den HSV auf Torejagd. Alle Infos findet ihr hier: http://t.co/4bPf0ooX0n #HSV #Tormaschine

13.27 BST: PSG full back Cristophe Jallet is weighing up his options after the Parisian club have moved in recent times to sign players in his position. They've been linked with Dani Alves of Barcelona and most recently AC Milan's Ignazio Abate which has led the French defender to tell L'Equipe: "I do not know yet. For now, I'm here. I try to prepare myself as best as possible. Some factors could change things, but for now I'm Parisien."

13.23 BST: Another Lyon star possibly set for the exit door is Clement Grenier according to the Daily Mirror. Newcastle and Arsenal are sniffing around the Frenchman who says he would leave the club if it meant cash-strapped Lyon were able to raise some money. How noble of him.

13.19 BST: Everton appear to be the club leading the chase for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette according to the Daily Express. Despite reports Lacazette only wants a move to a Champions League club, the English newspaper says the Toffees are closest to securing his signature from Premier League rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle.

13.15 BST: Everyone's favourite goalie Meme Ochoa is still technically without a club...

13.10 BST: A very busy few minutes for Premier League new-boys Burnley. Two signings in as many minutes! Marvin Sordell and Matt Taylor are now Clarets!

Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of ex-West Ham midfielder Matt Taylor pic.twitter.com/uw3GE9whZz

13.04 BST: A couple of stories here for your lunchtime reading. First up, read the full story on Swansea city captain Ashley Williams signing a new long-term deal with the club. And second we've got the full story on Thorgan Hazard's loan move from Chelsea to Borussia Munchengladbach.

Enjoy.

13.00 BST: And just a bit more confirmation of the Romelu Lukaku - Atletico deal.

12.53 BST: Reports from Cadena Ser in Spain claim the Luis Suarez deal could cost Barcelona 90 million euros. You read that right, 90 million.

12.41 BST: Swansea caption Ashley Williams has ended speculation over his future by committing to a new long-term contract.

12.31 BST: As if we needed it, further confirmation of what we reported earlier about Romelu Lukaku's move to Atletico Madrid breaking down, this time from Marca.

12.30 BST: West Brom fans are being told to be optimistic about potential new signing Prejuce Nakoulma. The attacking midfielder come striker is available on a free transfer after leaving cash-strapped Ekstraklasa side Górnik Zabrze and is said to be at the Hawthorns next week for a medical according to the Metro who also claim Polish journalist Ryan Hubbard believes Albion fans can be quietly optimistic about the arrival of the Burkina Faso international.

12.26 BST: That should put to bed any more rumours surrounding a move to Newcastle then...

12.24 BST: DONE DEAL! German outfit Augsburg have landed Greuther Furth's Nikola Djurdjic on a three-year deal the Bundesliga official website has confirmed.

12.19 BST: More Arsenal news as the Daily Star claim the Gunners want to splash out on not just Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, but offer forgotten superstar Bojan Krkic a way out of the club to re-ignite his faltering career.

12.12 BST: ODDS SLASHED on Tom Ince joining... guess who?. No, not Hull City. Or Inter Milan. Nope, not Everton, QPR or Crystal Palace. Would you believe it, Stoke City. Seriously, check out this article by the Stoke Sentinel. Make of that what you will.

He has been linked with anybody and everybody but it now appears Tom Ince could be close to signing for Stoke City.

12.06 BST: Liverpool's search for Luis Suarez's replacement is going to drag. Reported target Klaas Jan Huntelaar says talk over his future at Schalke can wait until the World Cup is over and after he has had his holiday, according to the Daily Star. Like I said, this could take a while.

12.03 BST: Similar to reports on the opening day of the transfer window, it appears Bild have moved to confirm that Manchester United have made a mega-money bid for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado. The German outlet say the bid is in the region of £45 million.

11.57 BST: A clear message from PSG boss Laurent Blanc to his want-away defender Marquinhos.

11.52 BST: Gus Poyet must be one proud dad seeing his son touted for a move to some of Europe's biggest clubs. Diego Poyet was interesting the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Monaco with his displays at Charlton but TalkSport claim the midfield ace has been snapped up by West Ham on a four year deal. Not a shabby move by any means, but hardly the glamour contract he may have been hoping for.

11.50 BST: Though a transfer could still be likely, any deal for Lille superstar Divock Origi would see him loaned back to the French outfit according to his sponsors. Read the full story here.

11.43 BST: Valencia are set to open the bidding war for Mathieu Valbuena according to TalkSport. They say Arsenal and West Ham are set to join in the fun and prise the diminutive Frenchman from Marseille. Previous reports have suggested offers of £10 million could see talks progress.

11.38 BST: The big news just keeps on coming as Sky sources claim Ashley Cole is in contact with THREE overseas clubs, one of which is said to be Serie A's Roma.

Ashley Cole is in talks with three overseas clubs after his contract was not renewed by Chelsea.

11.35 BST: Big big big news coming out of Arsenal as the Daily Mail claim Arsene Wenger has been in contact with legendary Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to try and lure him to the Emirates Stadium. Quoting Mundo Deportivo, reports suggest Wenger wants to bring the decorated Spaniard in as competition to replace Wojiech Sczesny in goal.

11.28 BST: FourFourTwo's Adam Digby has his say on the Patrice Evra to Juventus deal.

11.25 BST: The transfer of Adil Rami. I remember this saga from last year. The Valencia man wants out and was loaned to AC Milan for the season. The San Siro club have the option of a £7 million deal but are looking to pay around half of that to land their man on a permanent transfer. However, according to La Stampa, Valencia are demanding at least £1.5 million more and won't accept anything less that £5 million for the French centre back. Talks between the clubs are said to have stalled because of Peter Lim's attempts to take over at the Mestalla.

11.21 BST: Read Mina Rzouki on why she thinks Juventus face an uphill battle in keeping their stars in Italy.

11.16 BST: SUAREZ! SUAREZ! SUAREZ! Reports emerging that the deal for Luis Suarez is close and that Liverpool are not discussing a fee with Barcelona but how the deal is going to be structured. Negotiations are likely to be ongoing into next week.

11.14 BST: Impressive Ecuador striker Enner Valencia could be on his way to Europe after touting himself for a move on TV Azteca. He told reporters, "It would be a good moment to move to Europe, after what I have done in Mexico and at the World Cup. I really like Italian football but if this jump to Europe happens, I will welcome it and try to do my best wherever I go." It is said teams in Spain, including Espanyol, fancy a move for the Pachuca forward.

Enner Valencia would be jumping for joy with a move to Europe following his impressive World Cup - Espanyol are said to be looking for a proven goalscorer.

11.10 BST: Keylor Navas is the subject of serious interest from Germany with Bayern Munich set to pay the Costa Rica stopper's release clause of £10 million. Levante are looking to cash in according to AS while the goalkeeper's stock is so high, following a briliant World Cup display.

11.03 BST: A fantastic turn of events in the Victor Valdes to Monaco saga as the former Barca goalkeeper's agent has told the French club his client will be a Monaco player because they can't go back on their agreement. Read the brilliantly entertaining full story here!

11.00 BST: With Newcastle all but set to lose Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal after France's World Cup campaign (however long that has left to run) it appears they could be in for impressive young Dutch full back Daryl Janmaat. Feyenoord have been contacted by Napoli about the Dutch international's availability and it is said in the Metro he could be available for as little as £8 million.

Daryl Janmaat could be joining compatriot Robin Van Persie in the Premier League next season if Newcastle can secure a deal for the Feyenoord man.

10.55 BST: Crystal Palace fans will be pleased to hear enigmatic winger Yannick Bolasie is set to sign a new deal with the club to keep him from the clutches of Italian side Fiorentina who are said to be interested.

10.49 BST: Always hilarious Silvio Berlusconi has claimed Mario Balotelli has cost him and his family £35 million because of his poor performances at the World Cup. He told Gazzetto Dello Sport that he had offers from Premier League clubs but "Who would buy him now?" following a poor  tournament in Brazil. It's a great interview, read the full story here!

10.45 BST: They all say it don't they? James Rodriguez sees his future in La Liga rather than the Premier League but is concentrating on the World Cup for now. Read the full story here.

10.41 BST: DONE DEAL! I promise you that roughly translated this means Hakan Calhanoglu has signed for Bayer Leverkusen. The reported fee is in the region of £11.1 million. Bad news for Chelsea and Manchester United who were rumoured to be interested in the former Hamburg midfielder.

10.36 BST: Read Richard Jolly's take on Marouane Fellaini's claims he may not have a future at Manchester United when he returns from the World Cup.

10.32 BST: Nottingham Forest have no desire to sell their star defender Jamaal Lascelles despite an offer from QPR being rejected this morning. Now the Daily Mail reports Tottenham are interested in the youngster and could be set to bid £5 million to test Forest's resolve. Working in their favour is the rumour Lascelles is keen to remain in the north of England.

10.25 BST: DONE DEAL! West Ham last night confirmed the signing of Dundee United full back Andrew Robertson for £4 million on a five-year deal.

10.20 BST: It seems we're going to get a daily update on this one. Roma defender Medhi Benatia is getting an inch closer every day to his dream move to Manchester City according to reports in Italy. Italian newspaper Leggo say Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini flew to Milan on Wednesday to finalise details with City representatives. A £40 million deal is set to be announced soon.

10.15 BST: ESPN FC's Nicholas Rigg catches up with all the potential comings and goings at Real Madrid. Read the full blog here.

10.10 BST: Read the full story here on Mirko Vucinic's move to Al Jazira.

10.05 BST: If Arsenal can land their targets, Goal.com's Sam Lyon would regard that a success. If...

10.04 BST: A flurry of activity in Germany as Schalke look to replace one striker with another. Adam Szalai, who scored seven goals in his only season at Schalke, is set to move to Hoffenheim according to coach Jens Keller speaking to Der Westen. The report also claims Cameroon international Eric Choupo-Moting has had a medical at Schalke and will move on a free transfer to Schalke shortly.

10.00 BST: A cheeky little teaser from Werder Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin as he tells Bild "There are enquiries" for winger Eljero Elia. The former Netherlands international is the subject of interest from the Premier League after a poor spell at Bremen and their need to reduce their wage bill.

09.55 BST: It really truly is a huge merry-go-round isn't it? Get this. Manchester United have the opportunity to sign one of the best midfielders in the world so the selling club can afford to buy a striking target of rival Premier League clubs. Yes. According to Sport, if Juventus can sell Arturo Vidal for a big enough fee then they can finance a move for Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez meaning rivals Liverpool and Arsenal can't sign the Chilean. That is a dream scenario for the Red Devils and a perfect opportunity to live up to that nickname.

09.48 BST: So Diego Simeone has vetoed a move for Romelu Lukaku because he wants to sign Alvaro Negredo. Well reports from Croatian newspaper Vercenji List suggest Mario Mandzukic is set to sign with the Spanish champions after rejecting an offer from Wolfsburg because the Bayern Munich striker is looking for a new adventure outside the Bundesliga. This is all becoming a bit of a weird transfer love triangle thing...

09.45 BST: Hold the back page! Former European champions Nottingham Forest have rejected a £4 million bid from QPR for defender Jamaal Lascelles.

09.42 BST: TONI KROOS ALERT! TONI KROOS ALERT! His move to Real Madrid, apparently set in stone according to reports in Spain, could be hijacked by former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. The Daily Express claim the Blues have launched an 11th hour £20 million bid for the Bayern Munich playmaker and a the deal to the Spanish giants could be in jeopardy. I get the feeling we haven't heard the last of this.

Toni Kroos could be on his way to Chelsea should their 11th-hour bid gazump the offer from on the table from Real Madrid.

09.36 BST: They just won't let it rest will they...

09.30 BST: Those busy-bodies at Marca are at it again and have already bought a replacement for Madrid-bound James Rodriguez. Reports suggest Monaco will make a move for Real Sociedad front-man Antoine Griezmann should their Colombian superstar move to Real. However, no club is yet to match the £32 million release fee.

09.24 BST: And another rumbling transfer from Atletico Madrid as Portuguese paper A Bola say Benfica goalie Jan Oblak will sign for the Spanish champs for £20 million in the next few days. AS also claim super agent Jorge Mendes is facilitating the move which will see unwanted Atleti midfielder Josuha Guilavogui go to Benfica on loan for the season.

09.19 BST: What does poor poor Romelu Lukaku have to do to be wanted by a Champions League club!? First Jose Mourinho says he is not ready and now reports in El Confidencial suggest Diego Simeone has vetoed his loan move to Atletico Madrid because he wants Alvaro Negredo so desperately. Apparently the Spanish champions are going to put all their efforts into signing the Manchester City forward as he is Simeone's number one target.

09.15 BST: Touchy touchy Barcelona. Apparently the Catalan club are annoyed with Liverpool for leaking details of the Luis Suarez transfer to the English press. It's not like BArca have ever had any indiscretions over transfers recently is it!?... Anyway, the actual transfer is supposedly going to go through in the coming days with the £88 million price tag thought to be not a big issue according to AS. Alexis Sanchez is also mooted as part of the deal but the Chile attacker is considering offers from Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

08.57 BST: Footmercato.net claims Valenciennes' versatile left-footer Arthur Masuaku, 20, has decided not to join Marseille as expected and instead is trying to strike a deal with Olympiakos.

08.39 BST: DONE DEALS! We'll have more on this shortly...

08.29 BST: Saint-Etienne are looking at Olympiakos left-back Jose Holebas, according to football365.fr. The 30-year-old would be Les Verts' alternative should they fail to strike a deal with Dynamo Kiev for Benoit Tremoulinas, 28, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

08.13 BST: Reports suggesting Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala appear to be wide of the mark.

07.40 BST: Timo Hildebrand, 35, looks unlikely to join Bastia despite the Corsican club making him their priority to replace Mickael Landreau, who will retire at the end the World Cup.

07.12 BST: Christophe Jallet, 30, has not ruled out leaving Paris Saint-Germain, where he has a year remaining on his contract. "For the moment, I'm not asking myself the question. I try to prepare myself the best way possible. After that, there are factors which could perhaps change things," he told media at the club's preseason training camp in Austria.

Cech please!

Thibaut Courtois' masterful performance at the World Cup so far, on the heels of his stellar season for La Liga winners Atletico Madrid, could spell the end of the line for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Courtois seems to be headed back to Chelsea this season after three seasons on loan to Atleti. But the 22-year-old Belgian says he won't sign unless he knows he'll be first choice between the posts. And there are no guarantees for anyone involved when the Portuguese man of mystery Jose Mourinho is running the show.

To whit, the Blues re-signed Australian keeper Mark Schwarzer to a one-year deal. Clearly he's the back up, but the Chelsea number one is very much up in the air.

Cech's representative Viktor Kolar says no decision has been made by Cech or Chelsea. But his 32-year-old client is ready to take his show to Europe, where the Mirror reports Barcelona, Real Madrid, and hey maybe even Atleti, as potential new homes.

Ferdinand sparks Yedlin rumours

True. DeAndre Yedlin was a revelation for the U.S. at the World Cup, showing a gear that not many teams had an answer for. It seems there's been interest in Yedlin in Serie A before and his performance in Brazil didn't diminish that. Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca di Marzio says that a dual deal with Genoa and Roma could bring Yedlin to Italy, with Roma signing the 20-year-old defender and then loaning him to Genoa.

Speaking of old man Ferdinand

Transfer Talk mentioned that Rio Ferdinand's move to Queens Park Rangers was on hold because the board felt the soon-to-be 36-year-old was too old to bring over after his departure from Manchester United. Now the Guardian report that QPR's Harry Redknapp says it's almost a done deal. The price is, well, non-existent, as Ferdinand would come in on a free transfer after he was released at the end of his contract with MUFC.

Besler open to European options

Matt Besler was another United States player whose solid play at the World Cup has planted the seed of possible playing time in Europe. Besler, who currently plays for Sporting Kansas City in the MLS, said he's not ruling out any options at this time.

Sporting CEO Robb Heineman told The Kansas City Star on Thursday that the MLS club has received "enormous interest" in Besler and SKC and U.S. teammate Graham Zusi "from different leagues around the world."

Kroos playing waiting game...

Waiting until the World Cup is over that is. Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos told a news conference that there had been no decision over his future despite reports in Spain that he has agreed to move to Real Madrid.

"I want to concentrate on the World Cup and as soon as this tournament is over a decision will be taken -- nothing has been decided," Kroos said. Well that puts that to bed for at least the next few days depending on how Kroos and company fare in their World Cup quarterfinal match with France (Friday, July 4, noon ET, ESPN and WatchESPN).

Ashley Williams, once a Swan

Perhaps always a swan. Swansea City have gotten plenty of interest from Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Sunderland for the services of 29-year-old centre-back Ashley Williams. But now it seems he might not be going anywhere, according to the Express. Williams agent Jamie Morealee says that bids have been coming in from the aforementioned teams but that so far, Swansea have rejected them because they still see Williams as an important part of the squad.
