Rodgers to get £60m to spend this summer

Away we go with another edition of Transfer Talk, bringing you all the latest and greatest rumours and gossip from European news outlets. We've got some good ones today, starting out with the reactionary talk out of Anfield after the team's meltdown vs. Crystal Palace on Monday.

Anfield slush fund
With Liverpool's title dreams in shambles after the disaster against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, it's time to start shopping for some defenders to shore up the backline for the Reds. According to The Mirror, Brendan Rodgers will have 60 million pounds to spend on that glaring need and he has circled at least one new centre-back and a left-back. Currently on the short list are Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos with Schalke, Cardiff's Steven Caulker (whom Rodgers managed at Swansea), Sporting Lisbon's Marcos Rojo, Dortmund's Henrik Mkhitaryan and Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.

Ashley Cole, who has almost certainly played his last game for Chelsea. But instead of the 18-year-old Shaw, Mourinho might go after Seville's Alberto Moreno for 15 million pounds instead. That's fine with those holding the purse strings for United. They seem intent on spending the rumoured transfer fee and inking Shaw to a 100,000 pounds-per-week deal.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku may have another suitor in AC Milan. Lukaku is currently on loan to Everton, who are also motivated to keep him at Goodison Park, but that loan ends with the season finale versus Hull City on Sunday. The Express says the Belgian, who'll likely fetch 20 million pounds in transfer money, is resigned to whatever Chelsea decides his fate may be.

Roma eyeing Man City's Kolarov
The Italian capital club have reached out to Manchester City for the services of Aledsandar Kolarov, according to a TalkSport report. The Serbian full-back, who got his start with Roma's city rival Lazio, has made 29 starts across all of City's competitions this season. The report says that Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini met with Kolarov's representatives to lure him back to the continent. Beckenbauer to Bayern: Keep Mueller
German legend Franz Beckenbauer has urged Bayern Munich to do what it can to keep Thomas Mueller on the team for next season, says a report in The Independent. Mueller has expressed frustration with his role at the Allianz this season with manager Pep Guardiola reducing his role. Manchester United have expressed interest in Mueller and fellow German Toni Kroos and will have a big bank roll to work with this summer. Mueller has a history with the presumed heir-apparent at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal, during his time in Munich. The Bavarian squad is not expected to block Mueller, who's under contract until 2017, from leaving if he's ready to go.

More from Germany
Switzerland international and Eintracht Frankfurt captain Pirmin Schwegler is set to make a switch to Hoffenheim. The 27-year old midfielder has opted to join the Kraichgauer, who will activate a release clause in his contract. The transfer fee, according to kicker, is a low seven figures. Schwegler has played 146 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt, and has won 14 caps for Switzerland. He is expected to be called up by Ottmar Hitzfeld for the World Cup.

Atletico to Costa: Slow your roll
The incessant rumours about Diego Costa shipping off from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea have not cooled, but they may be on hold, according to a report in The Mirror. Atleti manager Diego Simeone doesn't want club management to let the star forward go just yet, as he sees Costa as a critical part of the team he has worked to build in Madrid. If it comes down to money, though, it's hard to see either side pass up on a deal rumoured to be in the neighborhood of 50 million pounds in transfer fees for Atletico and a 185,000 pounds-per-week contract to Costa.
