'It's Coming Home!' England fans getting World Cup fever with 'Three Lions'

While there may still be eight nations competing, the real winner at the World Cup so far must surely be David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and Ian Broudie due to the royalties they are reaping by the bucket load.

Classic Euro '96 anthem "Three Lions" has been resurrected with gusto by fans, with the song being streamed millions of times online and the chorus commandeered for use in an endless succession of memes. The iconic line in the song "It's Coming Home" is taking over the country.

The single is one of the biggest selling of all-time in the U.K., bought 1.6 million times -- so far. Only 31 songs in history have had more sales. And the Official Charts Company said on Friday the song is set to return to the top 40 yet again. 

Indeed, when even the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is forced to admit it's coming home, then you know the battle is already won.

One of the finest offerings to date features Ross, Chandler and Joey from "Friends" who, thanks to an assist from Marcel the monkey, slowly come to realise that it is, in fact, coming home.

Dubbing "Three Lions" over absolutely every movie ever made has proved to be a popular theme.

To that end, here's Andy Dufresne inspiring his fellow inmates at the Shawshank state prison in "Shawshank Redemption."

Of course, Christopher Walken and the very notion of football coming home naturally go hand in hand with one another. This is from the Fatboy Slim video for "Weapon of Choice."

The most erotically charged example of football coming home definitely came with a little help from the brilliant dole queue scene in "The Full Monty."

Here's an excellently elaborate take from "Shrek," who arrives in the city of Duloc only to discover that football is coming home.

One for the purists, here's Del Boy from "Only Fools And Horses," ringing Gareth Southgate during a press conference to confirm that football is indeed on its way home.

Let's face it, it was only ever going to be a matter of time before Alan Partridge and his imaginary bass guitar got involved to help welcome football home.

If anybody's going to accurately gauge whether football is coming home or not, it's got to be Baddiel and Skinner themselves...

And last but by no means least, our personal favourite: Neo finally getting to grips with "The Matrix" by accepting that football is, unequivocally and without doubt, coming home.
