Antoine Griezmann throwback as France star asks World Cup 98 squad for autographs

It would appear that Antoine Griezmann was always destined for greatness, with recently resurfaced documentary footage dating from last century proving as much.

During a film that was screened just two weeks before France won the 1998 World Cup, Thierry Henry can be seen autographing souvenirs for a couple of young fans.

"They're our successors," Henry quips as he, Zinedine Zidane and Fabien Barthez sign footballs, shirts and the like.

Little did he know how right he was.

Skip forward two decades and that little blond scamp in the footage is preparing to lead the line for France going into a World Cup of his very own.

And for once, it looks like all is well inside the Bleus' camp heading into a major tournament, with Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and several other members of the squad convening for a movie night in their Moscow hotel.

As for the class of '98, they've been convening too -- with members of that victorious France team reuniting in Paris on Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of their famous 3-1 win over Brazil in the World Cup final.

Zidane was front and centre, joined by the likes of Barthez, Youri Djorkaeff, Christian Karembeu, Robert Pires, Laurent Blanc and Alain Boghossian.

Whether history is bound to repeat itself this summer, only time will tell.
