Cristiano Ronaldo hugs Gianluigi Buffon after dramatic Champions League clash

Juventus went tumbling out of the Champions League to Real Madrid in rather dramatic circumstances on Wednesday evening, with a stoppage-time penalty call ending the Bianconeri's involvement for another year.

It was especially raw for Gianluigi Buffon, who got himself red-carded for remonstrating with referee Michael Oliver before seeing his grand Champions League career fizzle out before his eyes.

In the aftermath, the visibly irate Buffon embarked on a passionate rant in which he accused referee Oliver of having a "garbage can" instead of a heart.

Thankfully, the Juve captain had begun to calm down when Cristiano Ronaldo -- the man who beat him from the spot -- passed by in the mixed zone.

At loggerheads a matter of minutes earlier, it seems that the mutual respect between Buffon and Ronaldo had returned to the fore just in time for the pair to share a thoroughly respectful postmatch hug.

What an emotional rollercoaster. What a night.
