Chris Smalling's billion dollar offer

Craig Burley breaks down the latest transfer rumours, all of which combine for big potential changes on Manchester United's back line.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling cracked a joke at his own expense after facing a fresh wave of criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Having been left out of the most recent England squad, the centre-back posted an image of his "holiday reading" on his Instagram, making light of his recent dodgy performances.

Smalling tagged United into a photo of a book entitled "How To Turn Down A Billion Dollars" which appeared to refer to an offer the Red Devils snubbed for the 28-year-old just a few short months ago -- shortly before his form took a dramatic dip.

It's good to have a sense of humour about these things.

Chris covers the funny side of the game for ESPN FC in the Toe Poke blog.
