Sir Bobby Charlton's brother Tommy, 71, set for England call up

While the Charlton family already boasts two World Cup-winning siblings, a third brother is now close to making his England debut at the grand old age of 71.

Tommy Charlton was 20 when he watched Bobby and Jack lift the Jules Rimet Trophy for England back in 1966.

Now, over half a century on, he's hoping to become the third Charlton brother to represent the Three Lions by earning a call-up to the England over-60s national walking football team.

Tommy, a grandfather of six, still regularly plays for his local walking football team, the Mature Millers, based in Rotherham.

His performances at club level have obviously caught the eye as he has been invited to attend England trials at Burnley's Turf Moor stadium this Saturday.

"Hopefully I will perform well but it is going to be very difficult to make it into the squad as there are so many experienced walking footballers plying their trade at the moment," Tommy told BBC Sport.

Here's wishing him the very best of luck. Hopefully the combined Charlton family England cap tally (141) is added to very soon.

Chris covers the funny side of the game for ESPN FC in the Toe Poke blog.
