Landon Donovan gets 36th birthday surprise at Club Leon training

Landon Donovan played six games for Leon, in Liga MX, this past season.
Donovan's 36th birthday passed with typical flair delivered by his Club Leon teammates.

Landon Donovan is fluent in Spanish and seems to have taken to life in Liga MX with Leon in his stride. But his birthday celebration at training on Monday morning may well have surprised him.

The U.S. legend turned 36 on Sunday and the Leon squad launched into a rendition of "Las Mananitas" when the team gathered for the start of a busy week. Normally in Mexico, the person celebrating his or her birthday then has to blow out the candles and take a "mordida," or first bite of the cake. It's at that moment that some joker or other from the family pushes down on the person's face and they get covered in cake.

In Donovan's case, the team skipped the formalities of inviting him to sit and take a bite, instead showering him with water, picking up the cake and shoving it in the forward's face.

Happy birthday, LD!
