Newport County devise fearsome way to halt Harry Kane in FA Cup

The ESPN FC crew look back at an eventual third round of the FA Cup.

One year ago, Newport County were bottom of league two, staring relegation (and probable liquidation) in the face. Now they're preparing to face Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It's not going to be easy for the Welsh side who, among other things, will be forced to contend with Harry Kane, a striker in the form of his life with 26 goals to his name already this season.

However, it's not like Newport haven't been working on a game plan, with manager Michael Flynn admitting he's willing to adopt extreme measures to nullify the Spurs hotshot.

Asked how he planned to deal with Kane's ever-present goal threat, Flynn grinned wryly as he told BBC Wales: "Maybe a machine gun and a couple of axes?"

Not that we condone violence in any way here at Toe Poke, but it certainly looks like the brandishing of heavy weaponry might just be the only way to keep Kane quiet at Rodney Parade.

Chris covers the funny side of the game for ESPN FC in the Toe Poke blog.
