Ron-Robert Zieler left red-faced on Stuttgart debut
After just one season playing second fiddle at Leicester City, goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler returned to the Bundesliga on Tuesday, signing on the dotted line with newly promoted VfB Stuttgart.
The very next day, Zieler made his debut for Stuttgart in a preseason friendly against Dynamo Dresden and, to put it delicately, got off to a rather inauspicious start at his new club.
After coming on at half-time with Stuttgart leading 1-0, Zieler quickly leaked an equaliser when a combination of bad positioning and fortuitously heavy wind saw the 28-year-old stopper concede from the half-way line.
"He [Zieler] will certainly not be pleased about that goal," Stuttgart coach Hannes Wolf told Kicker.
"Overall, he made a good impression."
Alas, Wolf's new keeper went on to concede again as Stuttgart eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat.
