Wanyama gets street in Tanzania named after him -- for one day
Tottenham and Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama had a street in Tanzania named after him, but the honour was short lived after authorities removed the sign after just one day.
On Saturday, Wanyama -- who is on holiday in Tanzania, which borders Kenya -- was present at a ceremony to rename a street in his honour in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
But the following day, pictures emerged of the sign being taken away and a statement from the local Ubungo council said procedures to rename a street had not been observed, even though the mayor of Ubungo Municipal Council was reported by local media to have been at the unveiling of the sign.
Wanyama, who turned 26 on Sunday, is the poster boy of East African football and he is yet to react to the news.
The midfielder joined Spurs from Southampton for £8 million last season and appeared in all but two of the club's Premier League matches en route to a second-place finish.
