Confederations Cup 2017 -- the opening ceremony in pictures

Opening ceremonies for major football tournaments are notoriously difficult affairs to make sense of, and the 2017 Confederations Cup equivalent did not disappoint.

Football fans across the globe got a taste of what they can expect at the 2018 World Cup counterpart next summer in this rehearsal display that showed just what a colourful and captivating country Russia is.
