Barcelona icon Lionel Messi immortalised in Barcelona mural
With the locals obviously clamouring for football as the off-season chugs on, a huge mural of Lionel Messi has appeared in the centre of Barcelona.
Daubed on a wall in abstract hues, the brilliant painting has been unveiled in the Garden of the Three Chimneys in the Sants-Montjuic district of the Catalan city.
The Messi mural is the work of Barcelona-based street artist Axe Colours, who is both the brains and the brawn behind the portrait.
Axe decided to paint Messi using the blaugrana (blue and burgundy) of Barca as well as tinges of albiceleste (sky blue and white) as a nod to his native Argentina.
In our humble/expert opinion, it's pretty darned good.
