LA Galaxy mock Portland Timbers over Diego Chara fall, Timbers hit back

Diego Chara's early goal stood up as the winner as Portland earned three points on the road against 10-man LA Galaxy.

Having succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in MLS on Sunday afternoon, LA Galaxy took the unusual step of mocking their victors on Twitter after the match.

Galaxy lost at home to Portland Timbers and were left feeling more than aggrieved after they were reduced to 10 men in the early stages.

Indeed, an embellished fall from Timbers midfielder Diego Chara saw Jelle van Damme furnished with his second yellow card with just 34 minutes on the clock.

The home side were so put out that they decided to openly troll Chara by immortalising his play-acting in meme form.

For the record, Timbers posted a response, vowing to match Galaxy's derision with incriminating video footage of their very own.

While the world waited with baited breath, an apology came out from one of LA Galaxy's Marketing, PR and Digital team. And another burn came back.

As for football clubs airing their dreadful banter in public, can we kindly and politely request that they just go ahead and stop it entirely?

Chris covers the funny side of the game for ESPN FC in the Toe Poke blog.
