Leeds school causes Twitter storm with planned Manchester United trip
Normally school trips aren't controversial enough to spark outrage. But, if you're a school based in the Leeds area and you're planning a trip to Manchester United, maybe you're asking for trouble.
With Manchester United's old foes Leeds United languishing in the Championship, a Europa League tie against Zorya Luhansk must seem appealing in west Yorkshire - and that's the game that Horsforth School picked for their outing. It hasn't gone down well.
But the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that one former pupil wrote to the school's headmaster Dr Paul Bell in disbelief because "schools should be supporting their local community" and claimed he is "at risk of creating a divide." Meanwhile, other locals took to social media to express their anger.
Then again, Manchester United fans might point out that making the trip to their city, from Leeds, can be a worthwhile one -- as Eric Cantona can prove.
