Euro 2016 farewell to Iceland's Gudmundur Benediktsson
Despite being knocked out by France at the quarterfinal stage in comprehensive fashion, Iceland left Euro 2016 knowing they made an indelible mark on the tournament.
The same can be said for commentator Gudmundur Benediktsson, who became one of the competition's true breakout stars thanks to the incredible support he gave his team in the broadcast gantry.
Sadly, both Iceland and Benediktsson's European Championship story came to an abrupt end with a 5-2 routing by the hosts in Paris on Sunday evening, but that didn't stop the latter from greeting those two consolation goals with all his customary vim and vigour.
What a hero. He gave his all in every match, echoing the efforts of the players out on the pitch.
The tournament will be a less entertaining (and much quieter) place without him.
