Lionel Messi spotted still in Albiceleste shirt, gives Argentina hope

Argentina striker Lionel Messi single-handedly sent an entire country into panic mode during the weekend when he publicly announced his decision to retire from international duty.

The Barcelona star was clearly hurting after missing the first penalty in Argentina's Copa America final shootout defeat to Chile.

As his compatriots began to realise he was serious, Messi was promptly inundated with an avalanche of attempts to persuade him to change his mind.

Indeed, the entire South American nation is holding out hope on Wednesday after Messi was spotted twice still wearing his Argentina shirt -- at a tollbooth en route to Buenos Aires and at a party in honour of Sergio Aguero.

Messi made an appearance at the family party held by Gaston Castillo, a professional footballer with Independiente who also just happens to be the brother of Aguero.

Sos el mejor lejos .. No te vayas . Sabemos que amas a la Argentina con tu alma . VAMOSMESSI❤️

As you can see, Messi also decided to attend the party while wearing his official Argentina training top.

Perhaps a slightly strange choice given the events of the past few days, but hey ho.
