Lionel Messi addresses Cristiano Ronaldo car bidding rumours

Lionel Messi has broken his silence to address spiralling rumours that he entered into a tense bidding war with his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo over "the most expensive car in the world".

The two players were said to be competing to get their hands on a 1957 Ferrari Spider, with Messi widely reported to have outbid Ronaldo and dropped a cool €32 million on the rare automobile.

However, it would appear that the claims are entirely baseless, with the Barcelona star taking to Instagram on Thursday evening to proudly show of his "new car" -- an altogether less luxurious model.

Well, it's definitely red and shiny, but we certainly hope Leo has kept hold of the receipt if he's spent €32 million on that little thing.
