Romelu Lukaku says his mum told him to join Everton
Romelu Lukaku is in the form of his career since moving to Everton for £28 million in 2014, scoring 12 in 12 matches,
It's all a far cry from the frustrating time he endured at Chelsea, where the Belgian striker made just one Premier League start in three years as he failed to make inroads at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, Lukaku has now scored 15 goals in 20 appearances for the Toffees since the start of the season, becoming a pivotal figure in Roberto Martinez's plans. However, it would appear that the 22-year-old took an awful lot of convincing to re-join Everton on a permanent basis following his successful initial loan spell at Goodison in 2013-14.
In fact, it took a persuasive word from the only true authority in Lukaku's life: his dear old mum.
"Martinez actually called me three times and I didn't pick up on the first two, so I'm glad I answered eventually," Lukaku told FourFourTwo magazine.
"I discussed it with him, I spoke to Chelsea and I spoke to my mother. Eventually she said: 'Go to Everton.' I haven't regretted it."
