The Toe Poke: Spurs mock Liverpool, later apologise

Tottenham have publicly apologised after the club's official Twitter account was used to mock Liverpool's title-torpedoing 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace last night via the medium of a cheeky Tweet at the ailing Reds' expense.

Shortly after the final whistle, the official Spurs Twitter account posted a link to a short Vine montage video that mocks Liverpool's disastrous title run-in, along with the caption: "Brutal but very funny. The biggest capitulation since Newcastle in the 90s."

There's a screenshot of the tweet here. It's not a particularly venomous jibe, but not exactly behaviour befitting a Premier League side's official media department either. That said, it's the only say that Spurs have had in this year's title race!

Either way, Spurs' PR bods saw fit to immediately delete the offending Tweet before issuing a full and frank apology, claiming their official Vine account had been "compromised".

"We are currently looking into a security issue where our official Vine account has been compromised," the club said, again via Twitter.

"We apologise to anyone offended by a recent tweet, which was immediately deleted. This post was not tweeted by anyone affiliated to THFC."
