Transfer Rater: Samuel Umtiti to Man United, Mo Salah to Atletico Madrid

The latest transfer rumours from around the world.
The latest transfer rumours from around the world.

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Mauro Icardi to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have identified Inter Milan captain Icardi as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international has been linked with Real Madrid recently amid reports he is unhappy with the Bundesliga champions and should he leave, Icardi will be top of the list of potential replacements. The 24-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring 11 times including a hat trick in the derby against Milan last month.

Samuel Umtiti to Manchester United

Barcelona centre-back Umtiti has emerged as a top Manchester United target. Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his defence at Old Trafford after the unconvincing form shown by summer signing Victor Lindelof. The Portuguese coach wants another quality defender to provide competition for Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo. Mourinho is also an admirer of Real Madrid's Raphael Varane, who made his debut under the United boss at the Bernabeu. Umtiti initially struggled to impress at the Camp Nou after joining from Lyon in 2016, but has recently adapted to the club's style of play and has a hefty release clause of £53 million.

Jann-Fiete Arp to Chelsea

Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign highly rated Hamburg striker Arp. The Tottenham target is only 17 but has made a considerable impression after breaking through this season. Arp has an exceptional record at Germany Under-18 level, having hit 18 goals in 19 caps, while he caught the eye at the U17 European Championships earlier this year with seven goals. He has scored twice in three Bundesliga appearances this season and could be an exciting back-up option for Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge.

Lewis Dunk to Everton

In-form Brighton defender Dunk is an Everton target. The Seagulls centre-half has impressed alongside Shane Duffy in recent weeks, helping the newly promoted side to eighth in the Premier League table. And while he hasn't quite managed an England call-up yet, Dunk's form has not gone unnoticed. Everton are in need of defensive reinforcements, having conceded 22 goals already this season. The form of Ashley Williams and Michael Keane has been a cause for concern and whoever they appoint as their new manager, he is likely to demand defensive reinforcements in January.

Mohamed Salah to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are plotting an audacious bid for Liverpool winger Salah. The Egypt international has been in scintillating form since joining the Reds from Roma in the summer, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances. Thanks to his prolific exploits on Merseyside, some of Europe's heavyweights have taken notice. That includes Atletico who, according to El Gol, are willing to offer £50m in an attempt to lure the former Chelsea man to the Spanish capital. Put this one in the "very unlikely" category.
