Transfers hanging in the balance: Will Mbappe, Perisic, Sanchez move?

Romelu Lukaku's move to Manchester United from Everton has sparked the transfer window to life with the Belgium forward choosing Old Trafford over a much-anticipated deal with Chelsea.

The Lukaku deal -- which could rise to as much as £90 million -- combined with Manchester City's failure to fend off Paris Saint-Germain's late swoop for Dani Alves, has shown that a transfer can take a sudden, unexpected turn at the final moment.

But with almost two months of trading to go, several deals still hang in the balance, so which ones are most likely to get over the line and which are doomed to fail?

TIEMOUE BAKAYOKO

Tiemoue Bakayoko, Monaco
Tiemoue Bakayoko helped Monaco win Ligue 1 and reach the Champions League semifinals.

Another player at the centre of a Chelsea-Manchester United tussle, but Antonio Conte looks likely to win the race for the Monaco midfielder. The 22-year-old will cost around £40m, but United have cooled their interest, so Chelsea should get this one done.

Deal Prospect: 9/10

ERIC DIER

Eric Dier has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United believe they can negotiate a deal with Tottenham for the England international, but it will take an offer in excess of £50m for Spurs to even consider doing business. Jose Mourinho sees the versatile 23-year-old as the perfective foil for Paul Pogba in a defensive midfield role.

Deal Prospect: 7/10

KELECHI IHEANACHO

Kelechi Iheanacho
Kelechi Iheanacho has found his Manchester City first-team chances reduced following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.

Leicester City are close to wrapping up a £25m deal for the Manchester City striker. West Ham had been front-runners to sign the Nigeria international, but Leicester now lead the race and are attempting to finalise a transfer in the coming days.

Deal Prospect: 9/10

NABY KEITA

Naby Keita was part of the RB Leipzig side that took the Bundesliga by storm last season.

The RB Leipzig midfielder is Jurgen Klopp's top summer target at Liverpool, but the German outfit have insisted that they will not sell the Guinea international. Liverpool believe Keita wants to move to Anfield, so expect a renewed push to sign the 22-year-old.

Deal Prospect: 7/10

THOMAS LEMAR

Thomas Lemar's versatility in attack makes him suitable for Arsene Wenger's front three at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in the Monaco forward, who can play in all three positions across the front line. Arsenal have had bids of £30m and £40m rejected by Monaco, but another move is likely for the 21-year-old.

Deal Prospect: 8/10

NEMANJA MATIC

Nemanja Matic has played an integral role in Chelsea's past two Premier League triumphs.
Nemanja Matic started 30 matches of Chelsea's Premier League title-winning campaign but could be on the move.

Jose Mourinho has made a defensive midfielder a priority acquisition, but Man United are now chasing Dier due to doubts that Chelsea will sell Matic in the wake of the Lukaku transfer. If Dier does not happen, United will return for Matic, but the deal is looking less likely.

Deal Prospect: 4/10

KYLIAN MBAPPE

Kylian Mbappe is a wanted man, with clubs across Europe eager to land the Monaco superstar.
Kylian Mbappe is one of Europe's most coveted young stars following his breakout season at Monaco.

The hottest property in world football right now, but Monaco are fighting hard to keep the 18-year-old forward. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all on Mbappe's trail, but if he goes anywhere, Real Madrid is his most likely destination. But can they find the £130m it will take to sign him?

Deal Prospect: 6/10

BENJAMIN MENDY

Monaco will be hoping Benjamin Mendy doesn't follow Bernardo Silva in leaving Monaco for Manchester City.

Manchester City have been pursuing Mendy all summer, but have yet to conclude a deal for the Monaco defender. After missing out on Dani Alves, though, they will pull out all the stops to secure the left-back. And Mendy himself has given a clear hint he could be headed for the Premier League.

Deal Prospect: 8/10

IVAN PERISIC

Ivan Perisic is another player to have been linked with Manchester United for several months.

Manchester United are refusing to meet Inter Milan's €55m price tag for the Croatia winger, but the former Borussia Dortmund star is keen to move to Old Trafford and negotiations are underway in an effort to reach a compromise on the fee.

Deal Prospect: 8/10

ALEXIS SANCHEZ

Alexis Sanchez has yet to sign a new Arsenal contract, but Bayern Munich appear to have cooled their interest.

Manchester City lead the chase for the Arsenal forward, but the Gunners are ready to hold the Chilean to the final year of his contract. Sanchez wants to leave, so there may be turbulence ahead, but Arsenal are in a determined mood and do not need to sell.

Deal Prospect: 5/10

WESLEY SNEIJDER

The playmaking abilities of Wesley Sneijder could be just the thing that tips the Serie A title race squarely in favour of Juventus.
Wesley Sneijder won the Treble with Inter Milan and reached the World Cup final with Netherlands in 2010.

Los Angeles FC, the MLS expansion team, lead the chase to sign the Galatasaray midfielder. Sampdoria have offered the former Inter Milan star a return to Italy, but the 33-year-old favours a move to the US.

Deal Prospect: 8/10

VIRGIL VAN DIJK

Virgil van Dijk was tracked by Liverpool, who had to issue an apology after Southampton complained of an illegal approach.

Southampton hold all the aces with Van Dijk after securing the Dutchman to a six-year contract in 2016. Liverpool suddenly dropped their interest last month after appearing to have beaten Chelsea to his signature, but while the deal looks off right now, August might see a resurrection of their interest.

Deal Prospect: 5/10

KYLE WALKER

Kyle Walker has made more first-team appearances for Tottenham than any other player in the current squad.

Pep Guardiola had hoped to have Dani Alves and Walker vying for the right-back spot, but with Alves snubbing City, a deal for England full-back Walker is now a priority. Tottenham are ready to demand at least £50m for the 27-year-old, which is more than City want to pay.

Deal Prospect: 7/10
