Fantasy player's three-game report card

Three games into the Premier League season, there are clear-cut standouts among fantasy players and others who have been disappointments.

Goalkeepers:

Excellent:

Simon Mignolet, Liverpool, 29 points Three clean sheets, and 12 saves have the new Liverpool GK on top.

Biggest surprise: Allan McGregor, Hull, 19 points One clean sheet and 12 saves for the Tigers GK.

Disappointments:

Brad Guzan, Aston Villa, 8 points No clean sheets, four goals conceded and only five saves for the target practice GK.

Kieren Westwood, Sunderland, 10 points No clean sheets, five goals allowed and nine saves.

Defenders:

Excellent:

Seamus Coleman, Everton, 27 points A surprise at the top of the defender's fantasy point list with one goal, one assist, and two clean sheets.

Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea, 24 points Daniel Agger, Liverpool, 24 points Jose Enrique, Liverpool, 24 points Steven Whittaker, Norwich, 24 points

Disappointments:

Dean Moxey, Crystal Palace, 8 points Ashley Williams, Swansea, 10 points

Midfielders:

Excellent:

Yaya Toure, Manchester City, 23 points Two goals and two clean sheets have Toure the highest fantasy midfielder.

David Silva, Manchester City, 20 points Pablo, Swansea, 20 points Frank Lampard, Chelsea, 17 points Oscar, Chelsea, 17 points

Disappointments:

Juan Mata, Chelsea, 3 points Santi Cazorla, Arsenal, 10 points Paulinho, Tottenham, 10 points Eden Hazard, Chelsea, 11 points Marouane Fellaini, Everton, 11 points Michu, Swansea, 11 points Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool 12 points Steven Gerrard, Liverpool, 12 points Theo Walcott, Arsenal 13 points

Forwards:

Excellent:

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal, 21 points Three goals in three games.

Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool, 21 points The same strong start for Stirridge.

Danny Welbeck, Manchester United, 17 points Frazier Campbell, Cardiff, 17 points Robin van Persie, Manchester United, 16 points (although stifled in the last two games) Christian Benteke, Aston Villa, 16 points

Disappointments:

Fernando Torres (What else is new?), Chelsea, 3 points Danny Graham, Hull, 5 points Jozy Altidore, Sunderland, 6 points Dimitar Berbatov, Fulham, 8 points Gabriel Agbonlahor, Aston Villa, 11 points

For various manager decisions, several players expected to feature or who played a lot last season have either been used sparingly or not at all during the first three PL games. They include: Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha from Manchester United, Chelsea's Michael Essien, Romelu Lukaku, and Demba Ba, Tottenham's Emmanuel Adebayor, and Everton's Arouna Kone.

The biggest surprise through the first three weeks of play is that the highest fantasy point-producers that used to be midfielders and forwards are now goalkeepers and defenders. The reasons for this are the additional point given for a clean sheet and low-scoring games.

Now we wait for all the late transfers to be assigned values and listed. A note of caution: Romelu Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea to Everton, will not be able to play in Gameweek 4 since Everton meets Chelsea on September 14.
