Uruguay's Muslera attacked by ants at hotel
Their weekend was soon to get far, far worse but Uruguay found themselves besieged by an entire army of ants at their team hotel in the wee small hours of Saturday morning, shortly before being trounced by Costa Rica in their World Cup opener.
Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera woke up to find the ants in his bed, posting a photo of the invasion and saying: "Good morning. Look who woke us up at 2am. Haha, nothing better than a good anti-allergy medicine!"
Buen diaaaaa!!! Miren quien nos despertó a las 2 am!!! Ajaja nada mejor que un buen anti alérgico!! pic.twitter.com/AJsV3wE5xl- Nando Muslera (@1_Muslera_25) June 13, 2014
The manager of the Marina Park hotel near Belo Horizonte at which La Celeste are staying, Claudia Brandao, assured the public that it was an isolated incident, telling O Globo: "Surely someone left food in the bed."
Muslera saw the funny side, later telling reporters at a press conference: "It was funny more than anything else. We found ants in the beds, myself and [reserve 'keeper Rodrigo] Muñoz, who's sharing the room with me. But it was fine. They came straight away and changed the sheets and we slept well."
