Van Persie injured by kite-surfer on Ipanema Beach

Robin van Persie keeps watch on the skies.
Robin van Persie keeps watch on the skies.

You could feasibly accuse Robin van Persie of many things, but being fortunate with injuries is not one, and the Dutch international is once again nursing a painful boo-boo after unwittingly becoming involved in a kite-surfing incident on Ipanema Beach in Rio on Tuesday.

Van Persie was reportedly strolling along the beach with Netherlands teammate Daryl Janmaat when a kite-surfer descended from the sky and collided with the pair.

Feyenoord defender Janmaat told Dutch news agency NIS: "I almost got a kite on my head. There was a man kite-surfing and he fell on the very spot where I was!"

The Dutch football federation (KNVB) have since confirmed that van Persie's participation in the Netherlands' opening World Cup game against Spain on Friday isn't in doubt and that the striker merely suffered "light scratches" in the accident.

Still, we know what he's like with his "little setbacks," don't we?
