Singapore winger Ridhuan Muhammad lands Borneo move

Veteran Singaporean winger Ridhuan Muhammad has completed a shock return to Indonesia by joining Liga 1 side Borneo FC Samarinda for their upcoming 2018 Indonesia President's Cup campaign.

The club had made the announcement on their social media accounts earlier on Tuesday afternoon, with club chairman Nabil Husein sealing the deal after visiting Ridhuan in Singapore over the weekend.

Indonesia media reports that the 33-year-old will fly to Jogjakarta to link up with the team for a preseason tournament which runs from Jan. 6 to Feb. 4.

ESPN FC understands that the club have freed up a foreign slot after terminating the contract of Brazilian midfielder Leozinho. The other three spots are occupied by Brazilian forward Marlon Da Silva, Montenegrin midfielder Srdan Lopicic and Krygyztani defender Azamat Baymatov.

Ridhuan, of course, is no stranger to playing in Indonesia, having spent four years there between 2009 to 2013. Three and a half years were spent with Arema with half a season at Putra Samarinda on loan.

He established himself as a fan's favourite over there for his electrifying performances down the right flank which earned him the moniker of "R6". He inspired Arema to the 2009-10 Indonesia Super League (ISL) title along with now-retired compatriot Noh Alam Shah.

Ridhuan, who is part of Singapore's 2004 and 2007 AFF Suzuki Cup-winning squads, returned to Singapore in 2014 with Geylang International and has played for Warriors FC for the past two seasons.

Borneo finished eighth out of 18 teams in their 2017 Liga 1 campaign.
