Former Malaysia coach K. Rajagobal takes over at PKNS for 2018 MSL

Former Malaysia national team boss K. Rajagobal has been appointed as head coach of Malaysia Super League (MSL) side PKNS FC, 19 years after leaving the club.

Rajagobal spent eight years as PKNS head coach from 1990 to 1998 before spells at Selangor and Kelantan preceded his introduction to the national set-up.

The 61-year-old worked his way up from the Under-19 squad to the senior side before his finest moment arrived in 2010.

Rajagobal was in charge of the Harimau Malaya team that won the country's one and only AFF Cup title that year by beating Indonesia in the final. Rajagobal had also won Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold with the Malaysia Under-23 side in 2009.

K. Rajagobal guided Malaysia to glory at the 2009 SEA Games and 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup.

At PKNS, he replaces German Sven Gartung, who took over in July and led the team to a seventh-place MSL finish.

Bringing back such a big name is a sign of the club's intention to make an impact in 2018. The Selangor-based side have yet to win any major honours in their history and will hope that Rajagobal can provide the necessary inspiration to move the club forward.

But his most recent position ended just a few months into the 2016 season when he was relieved of his duties by Sarawak, who sat bottom of the MSL at the time.

PKNS fans will be hoping that Rajagobal can rediscover the magic touch that helped Malaysia achieve the most notable success in its recent history.
